The number one trait to look for when hiring? Humility. If it’s not there, nothing else matters. As Amy Mayer from friEdTech put so well.... You can teach someone how to use new tech or pick up a specific skill, but you can’t teach humility. It’s the foundation of growth, collaboration, and learning. Humble people listen, admit when they’re wrong, and constantly look for ways to get better. That mindset is priceless. Here’s why humility matters more than technical skills: 1?? Openness to feedback – Humble people are willing to learn from their mistakes and grow. 2?? Team collaboration – They put the team’s success above their own ego. 3?? Continuous improvement – They never assume they know it all and always seek to get better. Anyone can learn the technical stuff. But if they don’t have the soft skills that matter; like being open to feedback, working well with others, and putting the team first—no amount of talent will make up for it. Hiring humble people means building a team that’s coachable, adaptable, and eager to grow. Skills can be trained, but character is something you either have or you don’t. What’s one trait you always look for when hiring? Link to our full podcast episode in the comments!

So, I do this activity with organizations sometimes that I learned during my FranklinCovey coaching days. The objective is to get folks to see how others see them. Each person tapes a piece of blank paper on their backs and people go around writing one or two words that describe that person. At the end of the activity, people take a moment to take the paper off their back and read how others see them. Often times I creates tears, gratitude, and deeper trust and connection. I suggest to folks to keep this paper handy for the tough days. I still have mine from 2010. I was reminded of this activity when I had someone describe me to someone else. Here are her words: She's a healer. Intuitive. Lightning quick. Kicks ass. Loves cats. Thinks in visuals and models to simplify the complicated. My heart needed that more than she even knew. Hot take: Next time you connect with someone, share a specific thing you see in them that you admire or notice. Don't assume they know it or recognize it in themselves.
