Warren Buffet recently shared his estate planning advice: share your Will with your (mature, adult) children: https://lnkd.in/eZ4eWcRd ? As Buffett says, this will allow your children to understand the reasoning for your decisions, and to understand the responsibilities they will encounter. ? Generally speaking, it’s good advice. I typically advise clients to do just that, under the right circumstances. ? Much of the time, however, people do not want to have these conversations. Very few people want to talk about their demise any more than they absolutely need to. ? Even without the whole ‘death’ thing, these conversations are uncomfortable for other reasons. While it’s often flattering for someone to hear that they have been named as a first-choice executor, what about the person who is named second, or who is not named at all? Or the child who is getting less than their siblings? ? On one hand, that’s Buffet’s point: have the uncomfortable conversations now, rather than after you are gone. ? But it’s easier said than done for many, many people. ? Fortunately, there are other ways to convey these messages without necessarily having uncomfortable conversations with family members and beneficiaries. ? Want to discuss more?
