A federal judge in Texas recently issued a pivotal ruling in favor of Fried Frank and the MALDEF - Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund’s clients, striking down restrictive provisions of Texas’ Election Protection and Integrity Act of 2021. This decision protects voter assistance rights, particularly for individuals with disabilities or limited English proficiency, and breathes life into the Voting Rights Act of 1965. We are proud of our partnership with MALDEF to represent community-based organizations in challenging unjust elements of Texas’ election law. Last night, in honor of #UKBlackHistoryMonth, we celebrated Black excellence in the legal profession with an inspiring event co-hosted with the InterLaw Diversity Forum at Jefferies’ London office! The panel featured Natasha Adom, partner at GQ|Littler; Charlotte Aherne, executive director and senior wealth management lawyer at UBS; Sian McIntyre, managing director of Life Moments—Engagements & Acquisitions at Barclays; and was moderated by Patti K. and Daniel Winterfeldt MBE KC (Hon), co-chairs of the InterLaw Diversity Forum. The discussion explored the panelists’ career journeys, challenges and lessons learned, while also delving into the realities facing Black talent in the legal sector and beyond through an intersectional lens. They discussed strategies to drive change and the importance of authenticity in the workplace, in line with this year’s Black History Month theme, #ReclaimingNarratives.
