Our firm recently partnered with Entergy in-house counsel to host a pro bono training as part of the emPOWERing Pro Bono initiative, which brings together volunteer attorneys and legal staff from electric and gas companies to provide vital legal services to low-income and marginalized communities. The day began with an engaging session on cultural competency in pro bono work, led by Associate Deans Kelly Terry and Lindsey Gustafson of UALR Bowen School of Law, followed by hands-on training in basic trust and estates led by members of our Trust & Estates group Katie Bingham and Caleb Hollinger. We're proud to collaborate with Entergy's legal team to expand access to justice and make a meaningful impact. A special thank you to Amie Schoeppel Wilcox, Bill Waddell, Christy Kane, and Josh Ashley for making this event a success!

We’re proud to spotlight Anna Leggat's inspiring journey as a law clerk with our firm. In her article "The Power of Human Connections," Anna reflects on how her time at a pro bono clinic deepened her understanding of professional responsibility and highlighted the importance of human connections in the legal profession. Our law clerk program is built to provide meaningful, hands-on experiences that not only sharpen legal skills but also foster a lasting sense of purpose and service. This afternoon, a federal judge in Texas struck down the Department of Labor Regulations raising the salary threshold for the white-collar exemptions. Judge Sean D. Jordan of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas struck down both the $58,656 threshold that was scheduled to go into effect January 1, 2025, but also struck down the increase in the salary basis test that took effect July 1 of this year. Given the change of administration coming in January, it is unlikely that any appeal filed by the current Department of Labor will be maintained. Thus, employers should consult with counsel to discuss compliance with current regulations in light of this decision.
