What are the surprising benefits of youth sports? At Friars Club, we see the impact of youth sports every day – and a recent article from Scripps outlines five powerful ways these programs benefit kids now and into adulthood: ✅Improved physical health: Active kids develop lifelong habits, lower health risks, and even sleep better. ✅Better mental well-being: Sports help reduce stress, boost mood, and support long-term mental health. ✅Stronger social skills: From teamwork to empathy, youth sports promote valuable connections. ✅Academic growth: Participation is linked with higher academic achievement and creativity. ✅Essential life lessons: From goal setting to resilience, sports prepare kids for challenges on and off the court. At Friars Club, we’re proud to offer programs that go far beyond the game – helping young people grow into confident, capable leaders. Read the full article from here: https://lnkd.in/gk7-KPEh

关于我们
Friars Club is a 164-year-old nonprofit social service organization dedicated to serving the special needs of Cincinnati’s at-risk children through organized sports, education, nutrition, and fitness. Friars Club was established in 1860 to help German immigrant parents keep their children safe and busy after school. During the Great Depression, a new facility was built that continued to serve not only inner-city youth but children all over the Greater Cincinnati area. This building provided a broad scope of programs from prevention to treatment. It housed dependent youth, homeless families, community empowerment programs, and youth development programs. Faced with the realities of rising costs and outdated facilities, the Board of Trustees of Friars Club recommended to the Franciscan Friars (the Membership of the Corporation) that the building be closed in June 2006. The fortress-like facility, a neighborhood landmark, was best known for a youth sports program that served more than 600 youngsters in grades K-8. The youth sports program, which has always been the mainstay at Friars Club, has continued and the programs were conducted in temporary facilities: churches, schools, and community centers. The Friars Board, in agreement with our Franciscan sponsors, the Province of Saint John the Baptist, created a Facilities Steering Committee to lead the effort to design and seek funding for a new Friars Club. Friars Club broke ground on its new 3.5 million dollar facility located next to Roger Bacon High School in October 2013 and opened its doors in September of 2014. Today, Friars continues to provide organized athletics (basketball, baseball, and volleyball), education, and leadership programming for over 1000 boys and girls ages 4-17. All programs focus on values of respect, responsibility, leadership and good sportsmanship.

Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the recent flooding in Cincinnati. This week’s flooding has left roads underwater, riverfront parks submerged, and cleanup efforts just beginning. While the water has started to recede, recovery will take time. Let’s continue checking in on our neighbors, supporting local businesses impacted by closures, and lifting up the organizations on the front lines of the response. Let’s continue to show what it means to be #CincyStrong.

“Never say never because limits, like fears, are often just illusions.” – Michael Jordan At Friars Club, this mindset drives everything we do. Every time a child steps on our court, they’re not just learning how to play – they’re discovering what they’re truly capable of. Confidence grows, fears shrink, and limits disappear. We’re not just building athletes. We’re building leaders, dreamers, and changemakers. Imagine what’s possible when young people are given the space to rise beyond the limits they thought they had. #YouthEmpowerment #LimitlessPotential #CincinnatiNonprofit

This month, we recognize the importance of improving the health of racial and ethnic minority communities and reducing health disparities. National Minority Health Month is a powerful reminder that where we live, work, play, and learn have a profound impact on our well-being. By addressing barriers and promoting equitable access to care, we can move toward a healthier, more just future for all. Let’s use this time to listen, learn, and lead with action. Whether you’re in healthcare, education, business, or beyond – each of us has a role to play in advancing health equity.
