  • ?? CSB MBA Alumnus of the Month ?? We are honored to spotlight Kevin Cooper, MBA Class of 2007! After graduating magna cum laude from Harvard Law School, Kevin is now a partner in the mergers & acquisition group of Cooley LLP in NYC, a leading law firm that focuses on transformative deals, complex IP and regulatory matters, and high-stakes litigation. If you could go back in time to the start of your career, what would you do differently? ? "One thing I’ve come to appreciate as my career has progressed is that at the end of the day, despite the technical knowledge base and sophisticated work product that a corporate lawyer provides, the key ingredient to delivering a successful result to your client is providing unrivaled client service.?Early in your career, it’s easy to be consumed with trying to learn the lingo, hone drafting and negotiating skills and increase your exposure to different types of transactional situations.?That’s all important, but I’m a firm believer that young attorneys should be just as focused on developing the bedside manner, responsiveness and emotional intelligence necessary to guide clients through challenging and often career-defining situations by anticipating and artfully addressing their clients’ professional and personal objectives and anxieties with respect to the matter at hand.?These are important values to attorneys at all levels here at Cooley." Why did you choose Fresno State's Graduate Business Program? ? "I majored in business as an undergrad at Fresno State, with a concentration in finance.?After graduation, I was still spending a lot of time on campus involved with the football team (I played offensive line for the Bulldogs from 2003 to 2005), and there was a lot of synergy between the undergrad and MBA programs in terms of being able to continue my studies and get the advanced degree on an accelerated basis.?I had already been immersed in the superb curriculum and top-notch professors of the Craig School for a few years, so it was a no-brainer!" ?? Way to make your CSB family proud, Kevin! We wish you all the best in your future endeavors ?? #CraigSchoolProud #CSBMBA #FresnoState #MBA #GoDogs

  • ?? CSB MBA Alumna of the Month ?? We are honored to spotlight Theresa Monreal, MBA, Class of 2023! Theresa is currently the Marketing Director for Westside Produce. What did you enjoy most about Fresno State's?MBA?program? It is hard to narrow it down to one particular instance as I thoroughly?enjoyed the entirety of the program. I truly feel this was one of the best experiences in my higher education and professional career and a time I am extremely grateful for. However, one of the things I valued the most was the dynamic conversations and experiences that developed inside?and outside the classroom with?my?cohort and professors. Being surrounded by individuals stemming from all different industries containing a variety of experiences brings about new perspectives you would never think to come across when you are so siloed in your specific industry. Having the opportunity to learn from everyone's experiences and build off of one another is something you won't get anywhere else. Cultivating those connections through those empowering discussions is something I extremely value from my time there. This includes the incredible professors and staff that have become mentors to so many of us in our professional careers - they truly are the best of the best!? What is your definition of leadership, and how has that definition changed over time? Leadership is ever changing and evolves with all experiences. What terms a leader can vary, especially depending on the individual or instance, so it is difficult to fully capture one, singular definition. To me, leadership defines the act of guiding or influencing teams, individuals, groups, organizations, etc. in a positive way to accomplish goals and work in the most efficient manner. This includes inspiring others in how?they work, act, or behave in specific situations to effectively and cohesively work towards a specific outcome. As mentioned above, this is constantly evolving given the world around us is as well. I believe over time, relationships have become more prominent between leaders and how they influence others and not so much on command. This involves more empowerment and collaboration between leaders and groups to work together. This brings along more than just results but also growth and learning among everyone. Thank you Theresa! ??
