Congratulations, Janelle and Fola! It was a true pleasure getting to know you and Peter through the Place FORWARD project. We also look forward to continuing - and expanding - our relationship with Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health!
Last week, I had the pleasure of presenting my project as a FORWARD Fellow at the 2nd Annual Health Equity Showcase hosted by the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. This project, PLACE Forward, was done in collaboration with my co-fellow Fola Wilson and preceptors peter lewis and Roxanne Russell of the Digital Learning Studio. We created short documentary films celebrating the public health champions of Washington Heights, organizations and projects that address community needs and promote health equity. 🔗 Watch a trailer of our short films: https://lnkd.in/gTWms8QU My utmost gratitude to the community leaders who openly and wholeheartedly welcomed and shared their valuable insights with us: from Hike the Heights—Ysabel Abreu, Coach Dave Crenshaw, Dr. Robert Fullilove, Audrey Jenkins, MPH, and Tatiana Mahoney; from The Armory Foundation—Alberto Aquino, Rita Finkel, Clayton Harding, Zakia Haywood, and Bassett Thompson; from Fresh Youth Initiatives, Inc.—Maria Herrera, Susan Natacha Gonzalez, MA, ATR, MS Ed, and Beatriz Oliva, LMHC, PhD-Candidate, and from the Clementine Collective—Heather Butts and Colette Kirkpatrick. These short features are just the first step, and I can’t wait to see how these partnerships between Mailman and the community are sustained. This has been one of the highlights of my graduate education, and I encourage current and incoming students to be a part of this enriching opportunity! 🔗 Learn more about the FORWARD fellowship: https://lnkd.in/g2kmUJ_i
