Our Fresh Connect food prescription program data was used to support a groundbreaking analysis focused on the redemption of produce prescriptions. This study, led by Dr. Ronit Ridberg from the Tufts Food is Medicine Institute , involved 2,680 Medicaid members in Massachusetts. ?? Among key findings: allowing shoppers to choose their retailers and extended program enrollment are crucial. Both of these factors are linked to significantly higher program utilization. This study suggests the need to reconsider program design and research best practices for the future. #foodismedicine #foodsecurity

Although I am in the early years of my professional career, I cannot express enough gratitude to work at such an amazing, inclusive, and open-minded place like About Fresh. I cannot imagine working at a more inclusive workplace, filled with allies and big colorful hearts. I am feeling extra filled with pride during this pride month, as my partner Steph and I celebrate another year out & proud in our personal and professional lives. While many people are not as fortunate as I am in this area, I hope people take moments this month to reflect and think about how they can be more inclusive or more of an active ally to all people in the LGBTQIA+ (and beyond!) community. Here are some ways to become a stronger ally:? 1. Educate yourself - find out the history and current struggles of people in this community? 2. Don’t assume you know what someone needs - you know what they say about assuming! 3. Practice active listening - try to digest the information before creating a response? 4. Ditch putting people into boxes - boxes are out, and spectrums are in! 5. Recognize your privilege - use that power for GOOD!

Recently, The Rockefeller Foundation's Food team and several of our grantees and partners met with Dr. Meena Seshamani, Director of Medicare at Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to discuss learnings from our Food is Medicine (FIM) work, including how we can continue to increase the adoption of interventions like medically tailored meals and produce prescription programs. With approximately 65 million individuals enrolled in Medicare and 15% of beneficiaries having 6 or more chronic illnesses, FIM interventions as a covered benefit under Medicare could help beneficiaries lead healthier lives. DC Greens, a pioneer in produce prescription programs, launched a pilot in 2023 using the About Fresh Fresh Connect card*, enabling 300 families to shop for fresh produce at Walmart, Harris Teeter and Arcadia Center for Sustainable Food & Agriculture stores & markets in the DC region. The final report, released today, highlights some incredible results: ? 92% of participants purchased produce during the program period ? 95% of participants reported eating more fruits and vegetables than they did prior to the program ? 96% of participants reported trying a new fruit or vegetable during the program ? And most participants said the program increased their confidence in and motivation to prepare healthy, affordable meals for the family!
