Last Thursday, magic happened. We hosted an intimate dinner at the Fresh Truck warehouse, blending friends, family, colleagues, and community members for a night of connection, delicious food, and inspiration. It was the perfect collision of the personal and professional—reminding me how incredible it is to be surrounded by people who genuinely care about making Boston a healthier, more equitable place. The night was full of highlights: ?? Nikki Auger of Taylor Brooke Winery (aka my bff) served up amazing cocktails. ???? My YW Boston LeadBoston cohort filled a table with their energy and ideas. ?? My incredible co-host brought warmth and humor, making everyone feel welcome. ???? Our Chefs - Glendy and Gates - served up pupusas and braised haddock along with stories of food & joy. ?? And my amazing Fresh Truck team worked tirelessly to make it all happen—turning our warehouse into a space that embodied the mission of Fresh Truck: providing fresh, healthy food to Boston families. Taking a moment to step back and look at the crowd, I felt overwhelmed with gratitude. The room reflected the community and values I hold closest to my heart. This dinner wasn’t just about great food and company—it was also about rallying support for Fresh Truck’s End of Year campaign. If you couldn’t join us, there’s still time to get involved! Led by Elsie Taveras, Lauren Fiechtner, and Priscilla Wang, this pioneering initiative addresses food insecurity and encourages providers to view nutrition as essential as any other treatment. ?? Program Highlights: Holistic approach: "Food is Medicine" screens for food insecurity and connects patients to community resources, such as food pantries, teaching kitchens, and cooking classes. Key partners include the The Greater Boston Food Bank, About Fresh, Community Servings, and many more. Community impact: Programs like the “Fresh Truck” deliver fresh foods to underserved areas, while the MGH Revere Food Pantry offers plant-based options and nutrition classes to families in need. Research-driven: Studies by Drs. Taveras and Fiechtner demonstrate improved health outcomes, including lowered BMI in children receiving regular plant-based foods. The Healthy Incentive Program (HIP) - one of the best food benefit programs in the country - is at risk of being cut in half in December. This will impact millions of Massachusetts families during the holiday season and small farms and mobile markets across the commonwealth. ?? We are calling on our network to support the Campaign for HIP Funding's ask to the Governor and legislature to dedicate an additional $10 million to HIP (line item 4400-1004) in a future fiscal year 2025 supplemental budget to avoid this programmatic change. ??
