With support from MMSD’s Green Infrastructure Partnership Program, Riverworks Development Corporation incorporated green infrastructure into two redevelopment projects along Milwaukee’s historic Beerline Trail. Beerline Plaza and The Connector Building serve as key community gathering spaces and through a combination of porous pavers, native landscaping, and bioswales help keep nearly 34,000 gallons of water from becoming polluted runoff. A Green Luminary? helps protect our rivers and Lake Michigan by adopting practices that harvest rainfall for other uses or mimic nature by draining it into the ground to reduce water pollution. https://lnkd.in/d_FgRUZB #greeninfrastructure

CIS recently received the Business Achievement Award for Climate Resilience Industry Leadership in 2024 by the Climate Change Business Journal (CCBJ). This was awarded for the work CIS does as part of the Fresh Coast Protection Partnership, a green stormwater infrastructure program at the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District. MMSD has a goal of capturing 740 million gallons of water with green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) each time it rains by the year 2035. With that goal in mind, MMSD partnered with CIS to create the Fresh Coast Protection Partnership in 2020 to scale up GSI implementation across MMSD’s service area. By the end of 2025, FCPP will have successfully delivered 17 GSI projects that will capture nearly 11.5 million gallons of stormwater. #greeninfrastructure #stormwatermanagement

The Green Infrastructure Partnership Program (GIPP) celebrates its 14th year in 2025. In 2024, 11 public and private property projects were awarded funding to implement over 3.5 million gallons of stormwater capture through green infrastructure (GI). This program is a cornerstone of MMSD’s GI Programs that offer incentive funding to partners to install GI that can provide additional benefits beyond traditional stormwater management.
