This family owned and operated business started with one man and a dream back in 1922. And it’s kept going to this day by always looking at things in a new way. From the expansion of plywood after World War II to today’s revolutionary Mass Ply, even how we grow and harvest our wood, we’ve never been one to sit still with the status quo. You’ll always find us pushing forward for what we’re confident will be the next 100 years. ?? Scientists. Naturalists. Loggers. We’re proof they can all happily co-exist. We were born and raised among the trees. So we do everything we can to protect them. Following the Oregon Forest Practices Act we use scientifically- supported methods to sustainably harvest and replant the Douglas Fir trees on our 17,000 acres of timberland. And we respect our natural resources using every part of the wood from lumber, to veneer, to fuel. The result is a certification by the American Tree Farm System (ATFS). Our companies include Freres Lumber Co., Inc, Freres Timber, and Evergreen BioPower LLC. Freres Lumber has two manufacturing locations in the Santiam Canyon. Freres Timber owns and operates over 17,000 acres of timberland, primarily located in the Santiam Canyon. Harvesting is performed on a sustained yield basis, and is managed to provide high quality timber for current and future generations.

Forest salvage is the key to true restoration—without it, carbon loss, wildfire risk, and ecological decline are inevitable. It is critical that fire-impacted forests return to thriving ecosystems as quickly as possible. The alternative is standing dead trees, invasive species, and a restoration timeline measured in decades and centuries instead of years. See more about the important role of salvaged wood in sustainable forestry on the blog [link in comments] ?? #FreresWood #SalvagedWood #SustainableForestry

Forest thinning serves a dual purpose—it reduces wildfire risk while also providing essential materials for construction. ? Fire Prevention: Thinning helps reduce fuel loads, lowering fire intensity and protecting communities from devastating wildfires. ? Sustainable Wood Products: The harvested logs don’t go to waste. They supply mills with raw materials to build homes, infrastructure, and everyday essentials. By actively managing our forests, we protect our landscapes, support our economy, and create sustainable building materials. Watch the full video to see this process in action. #ForestManagement #WildfirePrevention
We are excited to share our latest video, "Thinning the Blaze: Enhancing Forest Resilience." This insightful video explores the crucial practice of mechanical thinning and its role in reducing wildfire risks and promoting healthier forests. Produced in partnership with the FEDERAL FOREST RESOURCE COALITION INC (FFRC), the video delves into the dangers of overgrown forests, the benefits of thinning and prescribed burns, and expert insights. Watch the full video below and join the conversation about sustainable forestry practices. Your support is vital in spreading awareness about responsible forest management.

After a strong start to the year, western plywood markets have slowed over the past few weeks. Persistent harsh winter weather across the country, coupled with market uncertainty surrounding tariffs and interest rates, has kept buyers cautious. Most customers are sticking to needs-based purchases, waiting to see how conditions unfold before making larger commitments. See more in this week's Market Update on the blog. The City of Bend’s new Public Works Campus is taking shape—with our Mass Ply Panels (MPP) as part of construction. Designed as a steel and wood hybrid, this project brings together multiple public works departments under one highly efficient, sustainable roof. Crews are making great progress on the 45,000-square-foot headquarters, which will feature cross-laminated timber panels for durability, energy efficiency, and a reduced carbon footprint. The campus is set to be energy-neutral, and will provide the space and resources needed to serve a growing community. We’re proud to work with The Harver Company in Bend to bring this vision to life. Stay tuned as this innovative project continues to take shape. #MassPly #FreresWood #BendPublicWorks
