Founder of The French Theater Project; Staff Software Engineer at Google, Cambridge.

It's opening night! "La Femme à qui rien n'arrive" is our second production, following our April 2024 pilot. We're nearly sold out, and can't wait to share the show with our audience. It's always educational to do something a second time. Even though we all know not to generalize from a single example, our brains can't help it. For example, here's three graphs of ticket sales. The first one shows the reservations by date for our pilot show, where all the tickets were free to the public. The second one shows the ticket sales for our November show, where we sold tickets for $20-$50. The third one shows the overlay, aligned so that the right-most date is opening night. It's super-encouraging -- our audience values what we are putting on stage and is willing to pay to support it. Coming from the tech world, where "up and to the right" growth is prized, the picture of our sales for this production is just what one wants. But look at October 13 - 20 in the blue curve in that overlay: when you're at the first plateau in your growth and you're looking at your one past trend, it takes a deliberate effort to muster the faith that the growth will come and all will work out in time. One final note: unlike the tech world where users return on a recurring basis daily, this curve resets to zero come Monday. Our next show is May 2025, and we get to start the cycle all over again. Both a good and bad feeling: welcome to the theater business !
