During our September #TransatlanticForum dinner, we welcomed seasoned political strategists Tracy Sefl and Douglas Heye for a bipartisan discussion on the upcoming #USpresidentialelection. With only a few weeks remaining until the election, Doug and Tracy—representing the Republican and Democratic parties, respectively—analyzed the September presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump, discussing its impact on recent polling. They also explored how both candidates might shape U.S.-European relations if elected and offered their expert advice on where each party should focus its campaign efforts as #ElectionDay approaches. On September 18th, French-American Foundation - United States Young Leaders and Board members gathered in Washington, D.C. for an evening of 'retrouvailles', discussion, and celebration of Franco-American friendship. ? The French Ambassador to the United States, Laurent Bili, graciously hosted the reception at his residence and delivered a keynote address on the current state of the French-American #alliance. Attendees?also tuned into a?panel discussion led by #YoungLeader Alumni on the upcoming U.S. presidential #election and its potential to reshape transatlantic relationships. We extend our gratitude to panelists Sara Aviel (YL 2020), Ian Brzezinski (YL 2001), Adam Hodge (YL 2019), and Emily Horne (YL 2022). ? A highlight of the evening was?welcoming the new 2024 class of?U.S.?Young Leaders,?who will travel to #Miami, Florida next month?with their French counterparts?for our 43rd?annual Young Leaders seminar. Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting Roger Cohen, Paris Bureau Chief of The New York Times for a French-American Foundation - United States #PolicyBreakfast focused on the current political situation in France. The conversation was moderated by Stephane Dujarric, Spokesperson for the United Nations Secretary-General. During their discussion, Roger and Stephane touched on the current perception of President Macron both at home and abroad, the ongoing impact of the dissolution of the French Parliament earlier this year, and the state of European and Franco-American relations. The team at the French-American Foundation is excitedly gearing up for the 2024 Young Leaders seminar, to be held in October in Miami, Florida – a vibrant hub of cultural diversity, business and innovation, and environmental significance, renowned for its unique blend of natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. During an intensive week of rigorous discussion and relationship-building, co-hosted with the French-American Foundation - France, 2023 and 2024 French and American Young Leaders will exchange perspectives, grow in their leadership, and address contemporary issues of concern to both France and the United States. In addition to site-visits and activities around the city of Miami, Young Leaders will have the opportunity to meet with local and global experts for discussions on climate change and resilience, business and technology innovation, media and cultural diplomacy, public policies underlying rapid urban and population growth, and more. Last night, in partnership with La Joie de Vivre bookstore and café in NYC, the French-American Foundation - United States welcomed author and journalist Yasmina JAAFAR for an evening discussion of her new book, “Ils on choisi la France.” Yasmina’s book tells the story of five iconic African-American artists of the 20th century who left the United States for life in France: James Baldwin, Nina Simone, Miles Davis, Melvin Van Peebles, and Joséphine Baker.
