My Sunday Morning Sermon Can we just be honest with each other for a minute? Fraudulent activity in the Freight industry is not getting any better- it is actually much worse than it was just a year ago Maybe, just Maybe some of the “Anti-Fraud” Vetting Platforms Are Part of the Problem Here’s some food for thought: Over the past couple of years, carrier vetting platforms relying on subjective data have popped up everywhere, claiming to protect the freight industry from scams. But reports indicate that freight fraud has grown by more than 400% during the same period. Further, too many good carriers continue to be penalized or denied verification by some of these companies due to some arbitrary standard; or by reports that simply are not true- At the same time, bad guys are able to manipulate the system and obtain good grades on some of these platforms That is a consequence of using subjective, hypothetical and predictive data to determine a motor carrier’s fate. To make matters worse none of these other companies nor the FMCSA even properly vet or audit freight Brokers or Freight Forwarders at all ! So, we have to ask: Are these platforms actually fighting fraud, or are they just making the problem worse? Many of these tools were created: ?Without real hands-on freight experience or comprehension of FMCSA regulations ?Using faulty algorithms based on questionable, unreliable or inaccurate FMCSA data ?Relying on superficial metrics like the number of inspections, how long someone has had authority, size of vehicle (under 10,001 lbs) or other subjective criteria And yet, they charge sky-high subscription fees for data that doesn’t actually help avoid fraud. In some cases, these platforms might be scams themselves—profiting off fear while doing little to truly protect carriers, brokers, and shippers. At FreightValidate ? > ? we take a different approach. With more than three decades of real freight experience, we use accurate and objective data. We know the regulations. We rely on manual investigative processes, advanced tools like credit scores, days-to-pay insights, information from Secretary of State, DMV and Federal FOIA offices, and of course facial recognition verification to truly fight fraud at its core. We also audit and verify info contained in FMCSA records for accuracy. We work closely with the agency to help them correct efficiencies. In doing so, FreightValidate ? > ? has become known as the “Unofficial Quality Assurance Department of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration” The question isn’t whether fraud is a problem—the question is whether the tools you’re using are solving it or making it worse Want to stop fraud for real?
