Great piece on building trust from Marissa Plescia at MedCity News featuring Freespira CEO Joseph Perekupka and a number of other experts. The article explores how healthcare organizations can build trust to reach underserved communities. “How we’re building trust is we’re asking very specific questions,” Perekupka said. “Every patient that goes through our program is paired up with a care coach that guides them through 28 days. They’re not practicing medicine. They’re really their partner on this journey. But through that, there is trust that’s built because they feel like they have somebody that’s helping guide them." Being kind to strangers isn’t just about the instant mood boost you feel -- it’s also the positive effect on your greater community that has a widespread effect. That’s what our Chief Clinical Officer, Robert Cuyler, PhD tells Yahoo Life's Kaitlin Reilly. When one person is kind, it “encourages other people to be as well, creating a more positive and connected environment.” That’s right – kindness can be contagious. Acts like organizing a local park cleanup, setting up a Little Free Library, food pantry or helping a neighbor in need all work for the greater good. “A more connected community enhances mental health by reducing feelings of isolation and promoting collective happiness.” Have you done something to help a stranger today? Sometimes you have to let the numbers do the talking. When we dug into our collaboration with Point32Health, we saw many stats worth mentioning. Some highlights: Cost Containment and Financial Risk Mitigation: Freespira has published impressive health economics outcome data, demonstrating medical cost savings of 35% in a commercial health plan population and a proven return on investment (ROI) in year 1. Freespira also offered contractual performance guarantees, reducing financial risk for Point32Health. High Net Promoter Score (NPS): Measures member loyalty and satisfaction. A high NPS indicates members are likely to recommend Freespira, which translates into higher retention and positive word-of-mouth for the health plan. Impressive Customer Satisfaction Score (CSAT): Reflects how satisfied members are with the treatment. High satisfaction shows Freespira is effectively addressing member needs, leading to a better member experience. In the last week of #BreastCancerAwareness month, it’s important to note that nearly 1/4 women who are newly diagnosed with breast cancer experienced symptoms of #PTSD soon after receiving their diagnosis. There are ways to manage your stress now or if you experience a delayed onset of symptoms of PTSD. “PTSD related to breast cancer can stem from the diagnosis itself, the physical pain or discomfort from treatments, repeated tests, hospital stays or the fear of cancer returning after treatment,” Malika Closson, M.D., a double board-certified adult, child and adolescent psychiatrist, tells Flow Space. “Patients may find themselves reliving their diagnosis, with intrusive thoughts taking over daily life.” Many can experience nightmares and vivid replays of medical procedures or hospital visits, which can disrupt their sleep. Even the smell of a hospital, seeing pink ribbons or foods linked to their treatment can provoke powerful flashbacks, taking them back to their most vulnerable moments and making it difficult to move forward. She adds: “Some may avoid activities or places that bring back memories of their cancer experience, which can lead to missed medical appointments or even avoiding health-related conversations. Emotional numbness can also cause distance from loved ones, while constant hyper-vigilance may lead to irritability and strain their overall well-being.” You can read more about managing the situation in the story from Sandra Rose Salathe.
