Happy National Dog Day! ??? To help celebrate, we're outlining 5 essential safety tips for bringing your four-legged first mate aboard a boat: 1?? Get a canine life vest A canine personal flotation device (PFD) is essential. You can find them at almost all pet shops and marine supply stores. 2?? Train your dog to swim Before taking them along, we recommend getting your dog comfortable with water, even if you don’t plan for them to leave the boat. 3?? Provide shade and drinking water To prevent your dog from overheating, stock your boat with plenty of fresh water and allow them to sit in a shaded area to escape the sun’s heat. 4?? Train your dog to reboard the boat from the water Your dog needs a safe way to get back on the boat.?Practice a reboarding procedure until they get the hang of it. 5?? Assess weather conditions Check the weather ahead of time and re-assess the day-of. Rain, heavy wind, and/or choppy seas aren’t ideal conditions for boating with your dog. #BoatClass #NationalDogDay #Boating #Safety

Freedom Boat Club of San Diego celebrates 10 years! A decade ago, owners Dan Hasbrouck and Jen Hasbrouck brought Freedom Boat Club to the West Coast. They recently hosted a luau at Dana Landing in Mission Bay to thank club members and the community for their continued support. "We love boating. The franchise started in Florida and we’re from Florida originally, so we knew a lot about boating and what to do with it," Dan said. "We made the jump in 2014 and started with three boats. Freedom Boat Club Lake St. Clair is cleaning their waterway one log at a time! The Lake St. Clair Hazard Mitigation Team operates out of Freedom Boat Club in Harrison Township, Michigan. And according to owner Steven Dobreff, the group of volunteers has pulled over 300 logs from the lake. Dobreff launched the mission after experiencing his own close call with a piece of driftwood. The?Sea Tow Foundation?recently announced the newest members joining its Boating Safety Advisory Council. Among the newly appointed members is John Sewell, the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager for Brunswick Corporation’s Business Acceleration Division, overseeing Freedom Boat Club, Boateka, and Marine Services.
