Ecuador, a country in South America, is bordered by Colombia, Peru, and the Pacific Ocean. Its terrain includes the Amazon rainforest, the Andean highlands, and coastal plains. Ecuador's dependence on agricultural exports makes the economy vulnerable to global market fluctuations and environmental challenges such as storms and other natural disasters that affect crops. Approximately half a million Ecuadorans live with disabilities. In remote, rural regions, limited infrastructure presents significant challenges to accessing education, employment, and healthcare. This November marks the 19th anniversary of our partnership with Junta de Beneficencia de Guayaquil (JBG), which has been supporting Ecuadorians since 1888 and provides nearly four million medical services annually, including wheelchair provision. “Wheelchairs have contributed to the expansion of our disability program,” relayed Diana Alfonso of JBG, “reaching the most vulnerable populations and those in situations of extreme poverty.” If you like in-depth highlights of the countries we serve, read our quarterly newsletters! Meet Carlos, a 67-year-old in the Dominican Republic who’s been living with diabetes for over a decade. His condition led to the amputation of his left leg, and he relies on frequent treatments to prevent further complications. Despite the challenges, Carlos and his wife, María, continue to face each day with resilience. Carlos recently received his first wheelchair, which has transformed his daily life. With this new mobility, he can now move more freely around his home, go outside for sunshine and fresh air, and connect with others in his community. His wife, María, no longer struggles to help him get around, and together they’re embracing a renewed sense of freedom. This World Diabetes Day, let’s remember people like Carlos and all who are affected by diabetes around the world. ?? #WorldDiabetesDay #DiabetesAwareness #GiftofMobility

Meet Esther, a 17-year-old student from Kenya, who faces mobility challenges with unmatched resilience. Born with spina bifida, Esther underwent successful surgery early in life, but struggled with mobility and self-care, often unable to visit friends or relatives. Thanks to continuous family support and training, she mastered essential skills to manage her condition, boosting her confidence and independence. Esther's determination never waned. She dreamed of a future in fashion design and enjoyed music and dance. Our distribution partner, Bethany Kids, fitted Esther with a new GEN_3 wheelchair, perfect for assisting her active school life and rough terrains between home and school. Thanks to your support, we can continue to empower brilliant young minds like Esther to chase their dreams with renewed hope. Transform lives just like Esther's this holiday season by giving special gifts from our store.
