Computers, monitors, printers, and other electronics are all being replaced every few years. The resulting electronic waste — referred to as e-waste — is the fastest growing toxic waste stream in the United States. According to the EPA, roughly 2.4 million tons of e-waste are created each year. Free Geek is where retired electronic devices can find new life. Free Geek staff and volunteers work hard to refurbish the electronics we receive. We maintain strict data security standards when processing any data-bearing devices that pass through our facility. By choosing us as your e-cycler, your electronics will be properly disposed, or given back to the community through our digital inclusion programs.

"In a?November 21 letter?to?the?National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) urged the agency to?halt the?Digital Equity Competitive Grant Program that was created by Congress in the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. The primary problem that Senator Cruz identifies in his letter is that the NTIA’s?notice of funding opportunity incorporates "covered populations" language which includes?“individuals who are members of a racial or ethnic minority group.” Free Geek along with many nonprofits in Oregon applied for millions of dollar to help us drive our mission and digital equity work forward. What a disappointing and poor display of leadership by Sen. Ted Cruz. National Digital Inclusion Alliance (NDIA) and our partners feel confident that the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) will not do as the letter says. Here we go....
