MEET TEAM FREE FLY: Jeff Legutski has officially joined the ranks of Team Free Fly, and we’re beyond excited to collaborate with this absolute legend. Born and raised in Naples, Jeff Legutki grew up like any Florida kid who lives a mile from the beach: surfing shore breaks and chasing snook and redfish on topwater plugs. Teenage dreams of becoming a professional surfer slowly morphed into a full-blown obsession with sight fishing the shallow, labyrinthine waters of the Ten Thousand Islands in the Everglades, and his new calling was found. The challenge of hunting in these seemingly infinite waters had him firmly hooked. Turns out, he’s pretty damn good at it—and decades spent carefully honing his craft certainly haven’t hurt. There’s no GPS on his skiff, in a place where even the most experienced angler could find themselves lost or stranded on top of an oyster bar in a matter of minutes. Miles of intricate islands and shorelines, all precisely etched into his memory. Who needs GPS when they’ve got that? Feel like an adventure through these mystical islands, pursuing some of the greatest shallow-water game fish in the world? You know who to call. Welcome to the team, Jeff. We’re stoked to have you aboard. #freeflyapparel #livefreefly

MEET TEAM FREE FLY: Emi Erickson has officially joined the ranks of Team Free Fly and we couldn’t be more excited. Welcome, Emi! Emily Erickson, with her signature single-fins and clean style, is one of the best big-wave surfers on O‘ahu’s North Shore—amongst men and women. She’s a constant fixture at Waimea Bay and Sunset Beach, building on the legacy of her father, ’80s big-wave surfer and lifeguard Roger Erickson. And for many years, she’s been part of leading the charge in women’s big-wave surfing. She brings a dedicated reverence to her craft and to the ocean. And even though she’s been on the cover of “Surfer’s Journal” and won several notable big-wave awards, Emi is one of the most humble and measured athletes you’ll ever come across. We’re so stoked to welcome Emi to the Team Free Fly roster. Please help us give her a huge welcome and stay tuned—it’s gonna be a fun ride. ??: Mike Ito #freeflyapparel #livefreefly

“First In, Last Out is about finding calm in chaos and trusting yourself to push through fear. The ocean has taught me so much. Embracing the journey to capture something unforgettable is what makes it all worth it, even if it means getting pummeled by waves.” - Ambassador?Christa Funk. We’re grateful to work with some of the best local fishing shops, independent businesses, and small retailers across the country. We’ve become close friends with a lot of these shops over the past decade, and we admire the love they put into their local communities. On this Small Business Saturday, we want to share the story of our friends from Southern Drifters Outfitters—who were hit extremely hard by Hurricane Helene. Our community means the world to us, so our team traveled up to capture their story. Watch the film: https://bit.ly/4fOztQX #freeflyapparel #livefreefly

Our close friends and family, neighbors, and communities here in the South are still reeling from the aftermath of Hurricanes Helene and Milton—and will be picking up the pieces for years to come. The town of Burnsville, NC was hit extremely hard by Helene, with record water levels and landslides responsible for a bulk of the damage. Three weeks after the storm, we met up with our friend Kyle Burnette — owner of Free Fly retailer, Southern Drifters Outfitters. Kyle and his close friend, Brian Hill, were amongst the first to assist trapped people, run supplies into inaccessible places, and help with search and rescue efforts. Get to know these local heroes and find out how you can help their community on the road to recovery. Watch the short film and learn more: https://bit.ly/4fOztQX. #freeflyapparel #livefreefly

We consider ourselves lucky to live in the Lowcountry where we’ve got access to an incredibly unique stretch of coastal wilderness—and it’s our team’s mission to love and protect these waterways. This past July, Free Fly chose to sponsor a one-mile stretch of road in our own backyard, starting at the Ben Sawyer Bridge and ending at the water tower just off Jasper Blvd. on Sullivan’s Island (one of our favorite local beaches). Through the Adopt-A-Highway program, our team will be responsible for five clean-up efforts every year to pick up trash and keep the roadside area clean—eliminating unwanted items from getting into the marsh and waterways. On August 27th, Free Fly spent about 2 hours cleaning up our one-mile stretch of road and filled a total of 19 garbage bags. It was an awesome morning and the team had a blast—despite the August temps!—and we can’t wait to get back out there. Eventually our name, “Free Fly Apparel,” will be posted on an official sign along the road—a fun little nod from everyone here at the brand and a friendly reminder to keep our waters clean, so that you and future generations can keep enjoying them. If you see us donning our neon orange vests on the side of the road next time, give us a holler!

We're thrilled to welcome Captain Benny Blanco as the newest Free Fly Ambassador. “When I was 8 or 9, I was introduced to the Everglades. And my entire life changed. I didn’t want to be anywhere else. I didn’t want to do anything else. I loved baseball. I loved school. But I wanted to be in the 'glades.”? With 26 years of guiding under his belt, South Florida-based Benny Blanco knows a thing or two about catching fish—and the attention of our nation’s policy makers. For almost a decade, Benny’s been fighting for conservation efforts in the Everglades, ever since a spike in hypersalinity killed off 50,000 acres of Florida Bay seagrass. ? ? He’s heavily involved with Captains for Clean Water, advocating for water rights in both Florida and D.C. He started guiding in the late ’90s as a Cuban kid from Miami, championing more inclusivity in the guiding space. Today, he’s a proud father of three and hopes to educate the next generation on how to responsibly take care of our outdoor spaces and waterways.? Welcome Benny!
