"Last year, I ran my first marathon in honor of my incredible sister-in-law, Casey McIntyre. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2019 and was treated at MSK. She always remained her amazing self: warm, smart, quick with a joke, and quicker to laugh at yours. Casey and my brother Andrew, her husband, had dreamed of having a family, and they welcomed a beautiful daughter to the world via surrogacy in the spring of 2022. Unfortunately, by that time, Casey’s cancer was becoming more and more resistant to treatment. Casey always loved marathon day in New York City, often saying it was the best day to be in the city. She loved going to the route and spectating near mile 8, where the marching band plays the “Rocky” theme song for hours on end, cheering on thousands of strangers. The last time Casey was able to leave her home while she was in hospice was to watch the 2023 TCS New York City Marathon from her favorite spot. She died one week later. I am forever grateful to MSK for the superb care they gave Casey, and for the extra time she got to spend with Andrew and their infant daughter. With her last wishes, Casey started a charitable campaign to forgive the medical debt of strangers, ultimately raising over $1 million. I’m proud to continue Casey’s legacy of charity by running this year’s TCS New York City Marathon with Fred’s Team to support research at MSK and imagine a world without cancer." —Evan G. #FredsTeam #TCSNYCMarathon #MSK #DedicateYourMiles

"I want to share a big thank-you to Fred’s Team for giving me the opportunity to run my first marathon at 65 years old. I am running to pay tribute to my 24-year-old niece, Perry, who is a five-time cancer survivor and a top fundraiser for Cycle for Survival, MSK’s official rare cancer fundraiser. I’m also running in honor of Howard Block and Leslie Barker, two of my dear friends who we lost to cancer. It is a privilege to help MSK, and I sure hope I finish all 26.2 miles!" —Dean K.

"We are the mother and brother of Kate DiPaola, who is currently battling stage 2 breast cancer. Kate was diagnosed at the age of 35. As anyone can imagine, she was completely shocked by the news. Nobody in our family has had breast cancer, and she was extremely healthy. At the time, she was enjoying life as a teacher, a wife, and a mother to her two children Lili and Leo. We were devastated, but we knew she would face her cancer with tremendous strength and perseverance. Kate has a long road ahead, but we remain in awe of her resilience and positivity. Watching her go through chemotherapy, radiation, and multiple surgeries has shown us firsthand the importance of cancer research. Now, we want to pay it forward. We hope that the money we raise with Fred’s Team will help other cancer patients and contribute to the possibility of a world without cancer. We are Team Kate, and we’re honored to wear orange and dedicate our miles to our girl." —JeannAnn B. and Brad S.

"I'm running the TCS New York City Marathon with Fred’s Team and Team SoulCycle to honor my incredible mom, Nancy Stinger, who passed away in April after a courageous 5-year battle with stage 4 lung cancer. Mom was a gifted artist who exhibited her work across the U.S., and she continued painting until her final weeks. She was also my biggest cheerleader, always smiling at the finish lines of my races — from cross country meets in high school to marathons as an adult. On November 3, I know she'll be with me in spirit, guiding me with her strength, generosity, and hope. Mom had previously beaten cancer several times, including breast cancer, skin cancer, and ovarian cancer. I hope you'll join me in contributing to my mom's wish to do everything we can to prevent others from having to face a similar fight and to eradicate cancers for good!" —Andrew S.

“This fall, I have the distinct honor to participate in the 2024 TCS New York City Marathon with Fred’s Team to raise money for Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. My family's cancer story started in 2009 when my dad was diagnosed with throat cancer. The following year, my aunt was diagnosed with lung cancer. They were both fortunate to be treated at MSK before passing away in 2018. In April 2023, my mom was also diagnosed with lung cancer. She is receiving exceptional care from MSK. This race is for my mom, and I'm dedicating my miles to my family.” —Julia J. #FredsTeam #MSK #DedicateYourMiles #TCSNYCMarathon #CancerResearch #ThroatCancer
