During the Africa Health Tech Summit 2024 in Kigali Rwanda, the Chair of Africa Health Business, Dr Amit N. Thakker ,EBS made a very powerful statement during his presentation. "In the future, medical professionals who decide to learn and use artificial intelligence, will replace those medical professionals who refuse to learn about artificial intelligence." During the breakout session, our Chief Marketing Officer, Dr. Samba Otavise had a brief session with him, appreciating his support towards the advancement of digital health in Africa. Coming gaps in future government support exposes everyone (!!!), including nonprofits, individual investors, and the builders of tomorrow. So although planning started years ago, we must continue to plan ahead too. We face challenges, not ignore them.? ? The SBIR reauthorization bill is out, and we’re thrilled to see it contains many of our recommendations – including, most importantly, a funded transition program designed to get emerging tech out of the lab and into the warfighter’s hands. Highlights: ?? Strategic Breakthrough Program - New 200M pool of DoD SBIR funding, designed to be matched by private capital or DoD customer funds, established to purchase – repeat: purchase, not putz around with idle R&D – SBIR-funded tech. ?? Firm Fixed Price established as the default contracting mechanism for SBIR awards, allowing new entrants to avoid burdensome government accounting requirements. ?? New Phase 1A Program – Accelerated 40k awards for first-time awardees, set on a 90-day “shot clock” for award notification. ?? Clear definition of Open Topic, designed to curtail bad faith practices in which a legacy topic would be nominally deemed “open” but in practice wired to a desired awardee using narrow technical requirements. ?? Curbs on larger high-volume awardees, designed to shift more funding to new entrants. ?? Program extended for 3 years, through Oct. 2028. The Alliance for Commercial Technology in Government is pleased to announce its strong support for the bill. This bill makes clear that Senate Small Business Committee supports new entrants to the federal market and the emerging defense tech ecosystem, and that it is ready to move forward with specific policies designed to facilitate entrance and accelerate transition and growth. We’ll have some technical feedback, but our overwhelming message is ‘thank you’ and strong support. Now – time to put the work in to get it passed. Let's go!
