This weekend, I had the privilege of attending Beta Alpha Psi's Mid-Year Meeting in Atlanta with Hofstra's Beta Alpha Psi - Delta Pi Chapter. Between connecting with different chapters and professionals, competing with my fellow executive board officers, and exploring new sites, I am so fortunate to have experienced my second BAP conference. Twenty-six 11th and 12th-grade students from Hempstead HS celebrated the completion of the Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation Program (LEIP) at Hofstra University’s Frank G. Zarb School of Business. This semester-long initiative enabled students to enroll in a section of Zarb’s first-year course and attend classes every Friday evening to earn 3 college credits. LEIP Facilitator Dr. Richard Hayes said, “We hope to expand and extend this opportunity to more underserved students and provide support as a higher education pipeline.” The LEIP took place from Sept. 2024 to Jan. 2025, concluding with student business pitches and distribution of course certificates on January 17th by Hofstra President Susan Poser and Zarb Dean Janet Lenaghan. Also present were Hofstra Provost Charles G. Riordan, Hempstead Assistant Superintendent James Clark, Hempstead School Transformation Facilitator Jacqueline L. Thomas, and reps from New York State My Brother's Keeper initiative. The event was held at Hofstra's Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Thank you to Hofstra faculty and staff in business, health sciences, engineering, law, education, and liberal arts who shared their time and knowledge with LEIP.
