    "If you didn't document it, you didn't do it" That tagline was off of a ConnectWise #PSA poster way back in my #MSP days. We had em all over the office. #Documentation matters. It starts off with this concept of tracking metrics. And that's important. You do need to know time spent on accounts. But that ain't it. At some point I started writing down process & procedure. I was getting closer. Documented #process makes actions #repeatable and #transferrable. Helps with the hiring. That ain't it, either. Then I started seeing the team do it. Everything got documented. Tickets could be transferred. People would take time off, and it didn't matter. Systems were able to be supported. That.... was it. Documentation makes it possible for teams to function. And #sales teams are no different. If you don't document, down to the individual activity level, everything on deals.... You gonna lose em. In this scene from HBO's #TheWire -- We see a bunch of pages. They're right before a crime is committed. #nospoilers The issue? The wire just gives that there was a page. No context. Your notes? They might just give that there was a dial. No context. Disposition your calls. Track your blocks. Get descriptive. Yes, I'm talking to you, #BDRs. Because you might not always be on this set of leads. It might lift and shift. You might get put onto other projects. Leadership might get ansty about leadflow. Without good notes --- nobody, including you, can pick up and run with your campaign.     When's the last time you looked at your competition? I'm the first person in a room who will say "Man, stand out." Don't be a follower. Lead. Differentiation is key for #MSPs B U T When's the last time you looked at your competitors? Really looked. What are they doing? What's the GTM play they're taking? How are they packaging? Marketing? Selling? What's the weak point in their play? How can you target it? I'm not advocating for being malicious, but you can absolutely take a competitor to their knees if you find out an exploitable tactic. That can lead to your own explosive growth in a sector. Be careful however: The same tactic can be used against yourself. In this week's episode of "Listen Closely" -- we explore the concept of Competitive Analysis.     "We need to regulate MSP to counteract commoditization and fly-by-night trunk slammers" Yeah, no you don't. #spicymonday On today's "Listen Closely" we're looking at Competitive Identification. I find competition coming up fairly routinely. #MSPs talk about it. Openly. Sometimes by proxy. Some say it's a risk. There is focus, resources, and even fear. Others ignore it. Funny thing on this industry -- If you're concerned about "Commoditization" of Managed Services, you're worried about competition. Someone using low priced service models is a GTM strategy. It's effective. Customers don't understand #MSP or #technology. "Cheaper technology" is a powerful narrative. So is "Better Technology" So is "Efficiency for your business" So is "AI & Automation" Every competitor has a GTM message. Strengths and Weaknesses. Do you even know who is doing what in the marketplace? Does you customer "get" your message? Do you even have a message, bruh? Today's lesson is all about Competitive Identification. If you're not putting the red hat on key parts of your competitor organizations -- That's fine. But you're probably missing something important.
