Didn’t make it to our White-Collar Symposium? This conversation was recorded live during the event and dives into the landscape of white-collar criminal prosecution from the perspectives of Bill Baroni and Jesse Eisinger. Your host Matthew S. Adams talks with them about their personal experiences with the presumption of innocence, including their views on how politics does — and doesn’t — influence cases pursued by the Department of Justice.? ? Bill is the former deputy executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey who was indicted and served prison time in connection with the infamous Bridgegate scandal before his conviction was unanimously overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court. Jesse, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, is the author of The Chickenshit Club: Why the Justice Department Fails to Prosecute Executives, which explores the DOJ’s prosecutorial approach from the early 2000s Enron era into the Great Recession and the collapse of the financial markets. California cannabis microbusinesses and retailers hope a new law expanding their ability to offer food, drinks and live music will drive growth and provide a template for other regulated markets. Does this mean a new era is on the horizon for the cannabis industry? In an article by Chris Casacchia for MJBiz, our Cannabis Law Practice Co-Chair Joshua Horn said, “The approval of consumption cafés is a further reflection of cannabis becoming more mainstream, similar to the advent of cigar bars that serve other items in addition to having a smoking lounge. Assuming California succeeds, we should expect more states to have this kind of offering.” #cannabisbusiness #cannabiscafe #cannabislawyer

Securing a decisive win in a case that spanned 15 years, a Fox Rothschild litigation team led by partner Colin Dougherty persuaded the federal appeals court in Chicago to reject claims by a trio of satellite service technicians who said a lower court had improperly decertified their statewide wage-and-hour class action. The Fox team included Marsha Piccone, Beth Weisser, Shannon O'Malley and Marc Smith. ? Learn more about the case and victory: https://bit.ly/3YmiL54 #classaction #laborandemployment #appellatelaw

Our Pittsburgh office has joined the Allegheny County Bar Foundation’s Pittsburgh Pro Bono Partnership to support the Protection From Abuse Project. ? A rotating group of volunteer attorneys will provide pro bono representation to domestic violence victims seeking protection from abuse orders. Our attorneys will collaborate with Neighborhood Legal Services to provide on-site assistance during the final hearing date, advocating and negotiating on behalf of clients. ? “During the pandemic, Allegheny County saw an astonishing increase in PFA petitions, despite the number of available pro bono attorneys decreasing dramatically,” said our Partner Kate Stoy, who is leading the initiative for Fox. “There is a genuine need in our region to assist those suffering from domestic violence to navigate the judicial system and protect themselves and their families.” ? Congratulations are in order! Our Partner Kelly Dempsey was selected to both the 50 Most Influential Women and Family Law Power Lists by North Carolina Lawyers Weekly. Kelly helped 11 teenagers find loving homes after they spent years in terrible conditions in a Vietnam orphanage. “Securing their homecoming is my proudest professional accomplishment. What drove our Partner Paul Kalish to pursue a career as a patent lawyer? With a background in biomedical engineering, he wanted to help businesses protect their technology and intellectual property. “I love that every new case provides an opportunity to learn about a different technical area and get into the weeds on scientific issues,” he said in our latest #FoxInYourBackyard spotlight.
