BSides Charlotte is happy to announce our annual cybersecurity conference on April 5th and 6th at Discovery Place Science in Uptown Charlotte! Both the Call for Papers and Tickets for the event will be available soon. We are recruiting volunteers for the BSides Charlotte security conference. We are looking for people who would like to help with the conference this year, as well as volunteers who would like to help throughout the year. In either case, you'll be actively working with the rest of the BSides Charlotte team to build upon the success of the past several years! If you are interested in volunteering, either for the conference or as a year-round volunteer, please fill out the form linked below. Applications will be considered within 3 to 5 days of submission. At Wild West Hacking Fest, I saw my friends from Fox Pick, and they had an incredible setup with their "Pic Tac Toe" game. It’s a head-to-head lockpicking challenge where participants compete in a best-out-of-three match. As always, they brought their creativity and expertise to the event, making it both fun and educational. One of the coolest things Fox Pick is known for is their work with Hack4Kids, a children’s cybersecurity conference in Chicago. They’ve been supporting it for years, helping teach kids about cybersecurity and lockpicking in an engaging, hands-on way. I remember at a previous event, my daughter spent a day learning from them and came home excited to try lockpicking on every lock in the house! Fox Pick dedication to sharing their passion and knowledge is truly inspiring. They continue to play a huge role in making cybersecurity skills accessible to the next generation. That's a wrap for Wild West Hackin' Fest in Denver for me. What an experience. I had a lot of respect for Black Hills Information Security going into this. Now, I have extreme love for them, so I guess they're stuck with me. My pre-conference Antisyphon Training, Ransomware attack and investigation, led by Markus Schober was top-notch. I will do whatever I can to get into another one of these pre-conference trainings. The value is incredible. Fox Pick led the lock-pick village. There was some great competition, but I managed to get 3rd place by picking out of a pair of hand-cuffs and through 3 door locks in 30 seconds. Competing against Federico Castro brings a lot of laughs and elevates my game. He took second with something crazy like 24 seconds. There were many great talks and conversations throughout the conference. Len Noe led a great talk and let me pick his brain. If you don't know who Len is, he has 11 implants in his body, a true cyborg. He's pushing the limits of what it is to be human, and this has big ramifications in the physical and cognitive security space. My highlight of the conference? A 6:30 run around Denver with the BHIS crew and a band of hackers, some athletes, others not so much, but all with open hearts and a true sense of openness and support. We finished with a breakfast and talk of all things security, gaming, and nerd salad. It was intellectually stimulating and soul nurturing. An incredible way to start my day.

Had a great time attending the Wild West Hackin' Fest @ Denver! It was an awesome experience connecting with fellow cybersecurity professionals, learning from insightful talks, and diving into hands-on challenges. Looking forward to applying what I learned and continuing the conversation with the amazing people I met like Daniel Lowrie !
