We are thrilled to have been a Hole Sponsor at the annual AIA Columbus golf outing earlier this week! The proceeds from this event support the scholarship program for students at Knowlton School of Architecture at The Ohio State University. We are proud to be a part of an organization that gives back to its community and supports the next generation of ACE professionals. Big thanks to AIA Columbus for hosting a great event, and shoutout to Howard Blaisdell of Moody Nolan for joining us on the course - and making a 76-yard putt!

Transforming Penn Medicine’s Outpatient Imaging Center in Kennett Square, PA. This project involved a reimagined and expanded second floor, with a building addition that integrated a new MRI into a fully configured and re-equipped Outpatient Imaging Center. Improved patient flow and privacy were provided with a central reception/waiting area, and separate gowning and holding areas for high turnover modalities and CT/MRI services. Spaces throughout were designed to feel warm and welcoming, with carefully selected finishes that add a calming touch. Among the key challenges we tackled were strategic construction phasing to keep the existing center operational and upgrading electrical services to support the new imaging equipment. Construction on the Navy Yard Chapel Block is well underway! This landmark residential development includes one seven-story and two six-story buildings, all featuring wood-framed levels atop steel podiums, with one building utilizing modular wood-frame units. All three buildings are designed to meet a minimum of LEED Silver certification. Chapel Block will be the first mixed-use residential complex at the Philadelphia Navy Yard since the naval base's closure in 1996. With 611 mixed-income apartments, luxury amenities, green spaces, and work-from-home setups, this development marks a major step in transforming the Navy Yard into a vibrant neighborhood. Construction is expected to be completed in August 2025. #Philadelphia #NavyYard #StructuralEngineering

This exquisite stone-clad #masstimber Dining Hall at Swarthmore College was completed in 2023. It drew inspiration from the landmark Sharples facility that had served the college since 1964. This had become too small and was no longer able to meet the culinary needs of an increasing number and diversity of students from North America and well over 30 countries. The Architects, DLR Group, in design partnership with Rayford W Law AIA NCARB LEED AP BD+C, sought perspectives and insights through an in-depth?360-degree engagement process, which included 55 meetings with various stakeholders and 505 interviews with a diverse cross-section of the student demographic. The result is a goose-bump inducing blend of steel, wood, stone, and glass that forms a unique typology drawn directly from collective experiences. The black steel connections on the hefty #glulam beams help to provide a timeless elegance that ties modern convenience with a deep cultural heritage. Designed as a cornerstone for social gathering and meals on campus, the 800-seat dining hall offers 10 robust food platforms, including allergy-aware, vegan, and international. Retail dining is also catered for as a late-night option. Various sustainable design solutions meet the college’s desire for high energy efficiency, the use of on and off-site renewable energy, zero waste options, biophilic design, and local food sourcing. O&N is proud to have been a part of the team for this important project, providing structural design services for the renovation.
We’re excited to share the completion of the renovation project at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia’s Behavioral Health and Crisis Center! Our team provided comprehensive project management for this multi-phase ~52,000 square foot renovation within an active hospital spread across multiple floors. The project constructed 46 inpatient rooms as well as an adolescent Crisis Response Center. Navigating the challenges of an over-century-old base building, our careful coordination ensured minimal disruption to ongoing hospital operations. The new space not only addresses a critical community need for mental health services but also stands as a beautiful, functional addition to CHOP’s facilities, creating a space for healing, hope and support. We’re honored to have been part of a project that will positively impact countless lives.
