Your frontline has no desk, no email, and is always on their feet. They make up 80% of the global workforce, yet only 1% of the vast amount of software out there is tailored to their unique needs. This year, Gen Z may comprise more than 25% of the global workforce. Many of them will end up in frontline positions (workers under 25 accounted for 70% of all fast food applicants last year). How do frontline employers attract and retain this growing generation of workers? One word: mobile. These digital natives account for almost 40% of mobile users and typically own up to five devices, using them for everything from education to romance. Mobile is their love-language and frontline employers need to learn to speak it. ?? ?????????????? ????????????-?????????????? ?????????????????????? across the entire worker journey. Start by including a mobile-first job application process, then utilize mobile-first communication channels once they get the job. ?? ??????????????????????, ?????????? ??????. Gen Z workers are more likely to remain at a company if they feel their opinions are heard and valued. Raised on a steady diet of social media, these workers value the fluidity of mobile communication and collaboration tools. Utilize mobile technology to keep an open line of dialogue and communicate expectations. For one 84 year old worker in Florida, his job isn’t just a job: it’s a calling. “I feel blessed to be here because I can do something for older people,” he says. “That sounds a little corny. But that’s the reason I’ve stayed for 17 years.” He started in his role at age 67 because of a deep desire to serve. How can smart leaders in need of frontline workers hire and retain older workers who want and need to work beyond retirement age? Here are 3 key strategies to make it happen: ???????????? ???????????????????? ??????????. Older workers are on the lookout for jobs with special meaning - they often want more than just “a job.” As a leader, find ways to infuse essential roles with purpose by allowing more customer interactions and finding connections to the higher calling of your organization. ?????????????????????? ???????????????? ????????????????????. Add more seating to help older workers avoid being on their feet all day. Provide assistive devices to decrease repetitive motions. Any solution that elevates comfort and reduces risk of injury is a win - for workers of all ages. ???????????? ????????????. Sadly, negative bias against older workers runs rampant. Use targeted messaging to highlight how much your organization values experience and age as part of your diversity and inclusion strategy.
