In our recent thought leadership piece, Joseph Loconte, PhD, a Senior Fellow of Founding Forward, a Presidential Scholar at New College of Florida, and the C.S. Lewis Scholar for Public Life at Grove City College, reflects on Abraham Lincoln’s Thanksgiving Day proclamation and encourages us to see Thanksgiving as both a time of thanks and remembering. It is a time, he says, to remember that “America’s defense of a set of moral and political ideals—the concepts of natural rights, human freedom, equality, the rule of law, government by consent of the governed—has made possible the most just, generous, creative, and dynamic political society in the history of the world.” Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gtiMbi3H

On this date in 1917, The Union League of Philadelphia dedicated the Lincoln Memorial Room in the 15th Street addition as a space to honor the League’s guiding spirit, President Abraham Lincoln. It remains one of the most iconic spaces in the League House – and a highlight on all Founding Forward history tours. The Union League was founded to support Abraham Lincoln’s policies during the Civil War, making the Lincoln Memorial Room one of the most iconic and meaningful spaces in the League House – and a highlight on all Founding Forward history tours. As part of our educational mission, we steward the League House, as well as its archives and collections, including commissioned portraits of America’s leaders. It’s also where we curate our collections. #CivicEducation #History #AbrahamLincoln #UnionLeague
