We asked, and researchers responded. To celebrate our first 10 years of supporting novel #food & #agriculture #research, we asked researchers to record themselves explaining how FFAR has impacted them. These are some of their insights...

Bold science for big challenges
关于我们
The Foundation for Food & Agriculture Research (FFAR) builds public-private partnerships to fund bold research addressing big food and agriculture challenges. FFAR was established in the 2014 Farm Bill to increase public agriculture research investments, fill knowledge gaps and complement USDA’s research agenda. FFAR’s model matches federal funding from Congress with private funding, delivering a powerful return on taxpayer investment. Through collaboration and partnerships, FFAR advances actionable science benefiting farmers, consumers and the environment.

On #NationalPoultryDay, Foundation for Food & Agriculture Research & McDonald's are proud to announce new investments in SMART solutions that enhance chicken welfare & farm productivity. OPTICFLOCK, led by Marian Dawkins at the University of Oxford, uses low-cost cameras to track flock behavior & provide real-time insights on key welfare indicators. FlockFocus, developed by Niamh O’Connell at Queen's University Belfast, uses intelligent surveillance techniques to monitor individual bird movement, feeding patterns & weight. These new SMART solutions bring the best research from across the globe home, creating a win-win for U.S. farmers & flocks. Accenture , Amazon Web Services (AWS), & U.S. Poultry & Egg Association are also supporting this #research. Learn more: https://bit.ly/3FA4DOX #PoultryInnovation #AgTech

Happy #NationalAgDay! Did you know half a century ago, the average U.S. farm fed 98 people. After decades of #agresearch helped farmers achieve higher yields, the average U.S. farm now feeds 169 people. Read more in this insightful op-ed written by Dr. J. Scott Angle https://bit.ly/4hiaaqw

United States farmers and ranchers often struggle to access the data they need to justify and implement science-driven practices that can increase productivity and profit. With a FFAR grant, Tech Matters' Better Deal for Data project seeks to research and design farmer data management tools to ensure wider access to knowledge. Learn more through the link in comments.

Are you a producer looking for data on H5N1 detection near you? FFAR grantee Maurice Pitesky has created a tool to track known cases as well as where waterfowl are in your area so you can better understand your farm’s risk.
New functionality for WaterFowl Alert Network by AgriNerds #HPAI #PitchSxSw Hi folks, If you have a farm or location that you want to understand waterfowl abundance around (present day or historical) we now have a tool where: -You pick the location - You pick the size of the area you want to know the waterfowl abundance for - You pick the dates of interest and we create the waterfowl abundance model for that area (box and whisker plots for a single day (left side of image below) and line plot for more than one day (right side). We can also provide info on the last time HPAI was detected for that area. Among other options we can then overlay the predictive model on a satellite image of the area and provide guidance on waterfowl and wildlife management. Our goal is to provide these type of tools for all of North America so poultry, dairy and swine farms can understand the risk around their farms. We would also love to show this to the USDA and state departments of ag so they can also help with wildlife assessments around farms. More cool tools to come! Thoughts and questions? Maurice
