Foundation for Recovery (FFR) is Nevada’s statewide recovery community organization offering education/training, advocacy and peer recovery support services . FFR has two Peer Recovery Community Centers; one in Las Vegas and one in Sparks/Reno area. FFR offers a 46 hour in-person training to persons with lived experience to learn the skills and knowledge necessary to work as a Peer Recovery Support Specialist in the state. The training is endorsed by the Nevada Certification Board and IC & RC. Other training and education are offered throughout statewide network project and to providers and organizations interested in peer recovery support services. FFR offers these support services at our Peer Recovery Community Centers locations or through outreach in the community: mutual aid groups; GED tutoring and testing; parenting and life skills training; peer coaching services; CRAFT groups; Seeking Safety and Veterans groups and resource connection in local communities.

The PRSS Certification course was designed to equip individuals in recovery with the foundational knowledge and tools needed to provide peer recovery support and recovery coaching to individuals strugling with substance use, problem gambling, and mental health. You will learn how to apply these tools in clinical and non-clinical settings. Congratulations to Renee for passing the Peer Recovery Support Specialist state certification exam! Renee has worked hard over the past year through classroom instruction, supervised field work, and studying for her certification exam. As a recovery coach, she uses her training and lived experience to guide and mentor others on their recovery journey. She shares that recovery is never a straight path—it’s a journey of resilience, self-discovery, and growth. For her, it took over 60 attempts, countless inpatient admissions, and moments of chaos before she found her way. Today, Renee is 5.5 years in recovery from a co-occurring disorder and is using her experience to guide other women on their path to recovery. "When I started the peer recovery coach certification program at the Foundation in May 2024, I had no idea how much I would grow. The guidance and support I received from the staff, especially supervisors like Hortensia, gave me the confidence to succeed. And when the day came for my exam, I passed—not because I crammed, but because I had been living the work every day. Today, as a certified PRSS, I feel empowered, connected, and ready to help others see what’s possible in recovery. To anyone walking this path: know that transformation is real, and community makes all the difference. Here at the Foundation for Recovery, I found purpose, belonging, and a place to thrive. My whole being is in motion because of all the staff, outreach partners, and my peers.
