The urgent mission of the Foundation Fighting Blindness is to drive the research that will provide preventions, treatments and cures for people affected by retinitis pigmentosa, Usher syndrome, Stargardt disease, Leber congenital amaurosis, age-related macular degeneration, and the spectrum of retinal degenerative diseases.

    The Foundation Fighting Blindness has funded 35 new research grants in fiscal year 2024, strengthening blinding disease research with a record-breaking $19.8 million investment in innovative projects targeting vision loss worldwide. Within this year’s funding, the Foundation has renamed the Translational Research Acceleration Program to the David Brint Translational Research Program, in honor of David Brint, who served as Foundation board chair from 2016 to 2024.
