Every child deserves to have that feeling,” said Michelle. “I usually end the Christmas season with overdue bills from buying even the simplest gifts for my son, just so he can have something to open. Home for the Holidays will make this year better, and I am so very grateful for that.”

We had a good turnout for Saturday's Grand Opening at Parker Lane Apartments. Families showed up to apply for the dozens of two and three-bedroom apartments we still have available in this brand new, beautiful community in southeast Austin. Mother of three, Laswanda, says being a Foundation Communities resident is like being part of a family, and Home for the Holidays is a big part of that. "Programs are in place to support us, helping me financially through hardships," said Laswanda. "However, as a contract worker, my income declines during the holidays. I don't get paid sick or vacation time, so when Thanksgiving and Christmas arrive, I lose weeks of pay, setting me back financially. I provide for three children, and during this time, I'm unable to make Christmas special for them. However, the Christmas program has made this possible for us from 2021 to 2023. It's a blessing to know that there are people who genuinely care about us, even though we've never met." We just keep growing! In this video, our executive director takes us to where we are breaking ground for Burleson Studios, a 104-unit supportive housing apartment community in southeast Austin. We are building this community where Mobile Loaves and Fishes is building another tiny home community.

Two-year-old Emily and six-year-old Emma love the holidays, and their mother is looking forward to seeing them receive gifts that will bring them joy. She says it's difficult for her to buy them because she can only find limited work and she has to pay bills. They're hoping to have a sponsor through the Home for the Holidays program. Today, we're honoring the many veterans who live in our affordable housing communities. We actually started celebrating last week at Capital Studios. Veterans and their supportive neighbors and staff gathered to watch a moving film honoring those who serve. That was followed by a meal and a gift for participants. Happy Veterans Day!
