FreightWaves's Alan Alder does a great deep-dive into our electric truck financing partnership with Climate United. Really worth a read. Immediate term, the project will provide really low-cost electric truck leases to fleets working California's ports. “You take that residual value, low-cost capital, the tax credit and wrap those all up in a truck financing,” said Matt LeDucq, CEO of truck-as-a-service and infrastructure developer Forum Mobility. “We can now deliver a lot of trucks at parity [with diesel]. And get rid of the chicken-or-the-egg debate that’s been going on for years.” If you want to learn more about how to take advantage of the deal, Ron A Hunt can get you rolling. Longer term, this program will establish a market residual value, and catalyze an active financing market for electric trucks: "But the real benefit is that Climate United will begin to establish how much a used electric truck is worth. Until the used value of an electric truck is known, a market is non-existent. Banks typically shy away from lending for an asset without a defined future value." Finally, as the author says, it's about "creating and preserving American jobs." 500 trucks is a lot of trucks, and will help build the economies of scale necessary to bring down costs. And for Forum: “We’ve engaged owner-operators since we started the business,” LeDucq told me. “We’ve always had the mission of making sure that any fleet can equitably make the transition [to an electric truck]. “The game changer is we can now efficiently finance a lot of trucks to any fleet.” https://lnkd.in/gpnwyDXD

Leaders keep on leading. We appreciate Lime's commitment to reducing freight emissions - which began with a partnership with our customer Hight Logistics, Inc. on 100% zero emission drayage at Port of Long Beach, and now extends internationally (hallo, Port of Rotterdam). Leading shippers are increasingly preferentially selecting for zero emission carriers. It's the next big thing in corporate sustainability leadership.

With a new partnership announced today, we're on track to cut our port-to-hub carbon emissions by nearly 95%. ? At this time last year, all trucks moving Lime's scooters, bikes, and parts from North American and European ports burned traditional fuels- diesel. ?? That was until we started looking for alternatives. ? Last spring, we launched a partnership with Hight Logistics, Inc. and Forum Mobility, utilizing an all-electric fleet for port logistics in North America. We also joined the World Economic Forum's Mission Possible Partnership, a commitment to fully decarbonize logistics. ?? And today we're announcing a new initiative for the other half of our inbound freight - a shift to HVO100, a biofuel based on vegetable oils, animal fats, or waste-based feedstocks, which is 90% lower carbon. Our two partners in Rotterdam, Alblas International Logistics and Neele-Vat, have already helped us save an estimated 7,100 kg of CO2 since we made the switch a few months ago. ?? To be clear, 90% isn't our end goal. It's just a mile-marker. We're actively searching for Rotterdam partners which can go all-electric and we’re pushing for the necessary infrastructure to get there. Excellent work Tom Hollestelle, Filip Hron, Greg Germon, Sam Loo, Candace Ferguson, John Jacobson, and the entire logistics and Lime team! #sustainability #logistics #trucking #drayage #ports #decarbonization #carbon #mobility #transportation #electrifyeverything #ridegreen #lime

Manny's take is the right take, and it is leadership like this that makes us especially proud to have Talon Logistics Inc. as a customer. Zero emission trucking is going to grow because shippers want it, drivers appreciate it, and eventually, the TCO will demand it. Right now, state incentives make a compelling business case. And last Friday, CARB passed major amendments to the Low Carbon Fuel Standard that will increasingly drive economics towards zero emission fueling. We look forward to driving this road together, Talon Logistics Inc.

You won't have to look very hard today?for hot takes on what the election results mean for the future, the country, and the trucking industry. A lot of the takes I've seen focus on the end of sustainability?in trucking. I don't see it that way. Environmentally?conscious BCOs will continue decreasing their carbon emissions, Scope 1, 2, and 3, and those companies will seek long-term partnerships with the truckers operating without relying on fossil fuels. When Talon deployed our first ZEV, I knew it was the right approach to creating a better, cleaner tomorrow. Nothing's changed. We'll continue?to increase the size of our clean fleet, using hydrogen, batteries, and whatever's next as a renewable source of power. #OptimisticForTheFuture #TalonSharp

The upcoming California Air Resources Board vote on LCFS reform is critical and a vote that needs to happen on November 8th.

On Nov 8, California Air Resources Board is scheduled to vote on a Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) reform package. While there are legitimate issues on biofuels and we would like to see a stronger commitment to using hold-back credits to support heavy duty trucks, on the whole, it’s a crucial tool to advancing zero emission trucking, and not passing it would be devastating to progress on zero emission freight. ? As a nascent industry, the economics of zero emission freight are challenging, and the LCFS program is one of the few that helps to close the gap and support a transition. Roughly speaking, a $100/credit represents upwards of $1000 in reduced fueling costs (depending on miles driven) for a driver of an electric class 8 truck. That's a huge deal. Freight is a business of vanishingly tight margins, and this revenue means everything to fleets looking to make the transition. ? The proposed amendments expand the program past 2030 to 2045, increase carbon intensity reductions to 90%, and takes several measures to reduce the accumulated bank of credits and increase credit values.?This programmatic expansion provides essential economic support to help fleets make the investments to operate ZEVs. ? Additionally, the proposed changes create a heavy-duty fast charging infrastructure crediting (HD-FCI) program, which is crucial in deploying the charging infrastructure necessary to support the Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) and Advanced Clean Fleet (ACF) rules. The HD-FCI provision addresses utilization risks in the early market phases, helping solve the “chicken or egg” dilemma that currently hinders infrastructure deployment. It's a brilliant and immensely helpful advancement, and Forum Mobility is appreciative of staff collaboration in development. ? But bottom line, for administrative reasons the vote can't be extended, and if it doesn’t pass now, it goes into a black hole with an uncertain future. LCFS remains an essential tool for advancing our transportation electrification goals and regulations. There is no other program in California’s panoply of climate efforts that can replace the level and length of funding for transportation electrification that this proposal provides, and failure to extend the program would have a devastating impact California’s zero emission freight efforts.? ? We urge the Board to pass it, and continue to address extant biofuels issues and make additional improvements. ?
