"I haven’t had a boss in 25 years and I’m not about ready to start.” The President-elect has?now ruled Jamie Dimon out of a place in his cabinet—despite the team at JPMorgan continually insisting its CEO has no interest in moving into politics. Despite that, Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social on Thursday: “I respect Jamie Dimon, of?JPMorgan Chase, greatly, but he will not be invited to be a part of the Trump Administration." While the billionaire banker seemed somewhat flattered by the comment from America’s next commander-in-chief, Dimon did push back on the notion that he would ever have joined a team under Trump. An early instance of AI surpassing its human counterparts can perhaps be found in an unexpected place: China’s livestreaming platforms. Startups in China can now develop digital avatars using just?a few minutes of footage, with the results being nearly as good as a human streamer, Rodney W. Zemmel senior partner at?McKinsey & Company, explained during a lunchtime session on AI’s potential at the #FortuneGlobalForum in New York. “They didn’t outperform the best human live stream sellers, but they were outperforming the median human live stream sellers pretty quickly,” Zemmel noted. He pointed out that with the introduction of this AI, average wages of human streamers dropped by about 20%. “This is the first example you can see of robots outcompeting the humans in real time,” Zemmel said. At?Yum China, cozying up to your boss in the hopes of winning affection and landing a promotion is futile—because even if they wanted to get you that step up the ladder, they can’t. Managers aren’t allowed to promote direct reports at the $17.9 trillion company behind?KFC, Taco Bell, and Pizza Hut in China, CEO Joey Wat revealed in an interview at?Fortune’s?Global Forum conference?in New York. “The boss sponsors someone to be promoted and we have a committee with very senior people, including myself, to sift through every single promotion,” Wat told the #FortuneGlobalForum. This jacket was made from pollution, but LanzaTech CEO Jennifer Holmgren says people still don’t believe it’s real or even possible. At?#FortuneGlobalForum, Holmgren discussed how her business is creating products out of pollution. For example, the company takes the carbon dioxide omitted from China’s commercial plants and pumps it into a bioreactor to create ethanol. It then converts that organic compound into a monomer that later becomes polyester, which can then be used to make things like jackets and other clothes. But these types of advanced technology are so forward-thinking that Holmgren says she frequently encounters naysayers. “The perfect being the enemy of the good is really the biggest thing we deal with," she said. In a Silicon Valley culture known for “grindset” founders, Jensen Huang still manages to stand out. The?NVIDIA?chief executive told?Stripe?CEO Patrick Collison earlier this year that he is either working, or thinking about work, every waking moment—and that he works seven days a week. “If you want to build something great, it’s not easy. You have to suffer, you have to struggle, you have to endeavor,” Huang said. “And there are no such things that are great, that are easy to do.” Well, no one doubts Huang has built something great. Under his leadership, Nvidia has positioned itself at the heart of the artificial intelligence boom. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/efuj-j_4

Implanting chips in the human brain so that people can control computers with their minds reads like something straight out of a sci-fi novel, and yet it is a burgeoning industry among Silicon Valley startups. The technical term for these brain chips is brain-computer interface. “The best way to think about this is a brain-control system that enables you to navigate through your personal devices without having to use your hands,” said Thomas Oxley, CEO of Synchron during an onstage presentation at the #FortuneGlobalForum. The technology presents no shortage of technological, medical, and ethical hurdles, however. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eRty7RrA

Honeywell?CEO Vimal Kapur has a message to employers that are on the fence about adopting artificial intelligence. “In today’s world, if you’re not going to change, you’re living in the past,” he said at the #FortuneGlobalForum. “If you resist it, I’m sure it will come and get you.” As an optimist about the wider adoption of AI, Kapur points to the rise of other technologies since the turn of the century, including 5G and the cloud, which alongside AI, will become the great “trifecta” and “build a path of autonomy for the industrial sector.” “If you’re scared, it’s a doomsday for everybody,” says Kapur. As backlash to corporate DEI efforts reaches a fever pitch, one advocate says its success is critical to the U.S. economy because the math for the country’s long-term prosperity doesn’t add up without it. “There’s not enough white men,” John Hope Bryant, founder and CEO of Operation HOPE, a non-profit that provides financial literacy training, said Tuesday at Fortune’s Global Forum. “Mathematically, there’s not enough college-educated, successful white men to drive GDP for 30 years.” Read more from the #FortuneGlobalForum here ?? https://lnkd.in/eNPTEcZz
