Last June we packed up our things and made the short journey to our new office. There's been an unbelievable amount of work to make this new location the long-term home of JLR in #Portland and we're immensely proud to begin sharing the results. We've had an incredible team supporting us throughout the selection, build out, move, and continued refinement of this space, including our local Portland team (lead by Anita Younger), our global teams at JLR (James Harman-Sherwood, Paul Rathbone, Simrun Jandu), and our partners at The Instant Group (Nestor Eliadis, Rhodri Mason MRICS, James Brown, Jess Libby, Charlotte Prince, Adna Daniel, ACoM, Alyxandria Dale), Fortis Construction, Inc. Association of Zoos and Aquariums award-winning Oregon Zoo Education Center is a vibrant hub for community education and exploration. This dynamic space offers an interactive exhibit that showcases practical ways to make our planet healthier and more sustainable. Inspired by the circular woven nature of a bird’s nest, the organic architecture creates an intertwined relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces, blending seamlessly into the Zoo landscape and animal exhibits. The sweeping cantilevered entry roof draws visitors into the lobby’s interactive displays, insect exhibit and events space. As a crossroads for sustainable learning and exploration, the AIA COTE Top 10 Education Center embodies the Zoo’s mission of advancing animal welfare, environmental literacy, and conservation science within the community. Mass Timber installation is going smoothly for East County Library in Gresham, Oregon. The new library is our team's first mass timber project as a glulam manufacturer since acquiring American Laminators earlier this year. The ability to work closely with our lamination team has allowed us to create even greater efficiencies in our mass timber fabrication and installation processes. The new 95,000-square-foot two-story structure contains columns spanning nearly 30 feet! The project features unique connection details, many of which utilize bearing shelves to enhance the structural integrity of the building. It will incorporate roughly 1,200 pieces of glulam and 300 CLT panels. The library is slated to open in Fall 2025, targeting LEED Gold certification. Funded by the $387 million bond measure to expand and modernize Multnomah County Library facilities.
