  • Not only did he implant the first AICD, but he did it with Vivian Thomas, the first ever Surgical Tech, by his side. Dr. Levi Watkins Jr. didn’t just break barriers—he built bridges. In 1980, he made history by implanting the first automatic defibrillator, a device that continues to save countless lives today. But his impact extended beyond the operating room. As a civil rights activist, he worked tirelessly to diversify medical education, ensuring future Black physicians had a seat at the table. His legacy is one of innovation, advocacy, and unwavering commitment to equality. #BlackHistoryMonth #MedicalInnovation #HeartHealth #DiversityInMedicine

  • Dr. Myra Adele Logan didn’t just perform life-saving surgeries—she changed the future of medicine. In 1943, she became the first woman to perform an open-heart surgery, a groundbreaking achievement in cardiology. But her work didn’t stop there. • It's time for a surgical Black History fact! Click through these photos to learn a little more. While Dr. J. Marion Sims is credited with advancements in gynecology, it's crucial to recognize the enslaved Black women—Anarcha, Lucy, and Betsey—who endured painful procedures without consent or anesthesia. Their sacrifices are now honored at the Mothers of Gynecology Monument in Montgomery, Alabama. #BlackHistoryMonth #MothersOfGynecology #AnarchaLucyBetsey #MedicalEthics #HiddenFigures

  • ?? Kicking Off 2025 with a Bang! ?? This past weekend, we hosted our first surgical technologist networking mixer of the year, and it was a massive success! What an incredible way to jumpstart the year—thank you to everyone who came out and made it so special. We kicked things off in Harlem, bringing together an amazing group of surgical tech professionals. From students just beginning their journey to seasoned instructors with 20+ years of experience, the room was full of valuable conversations, shared knowledge, and genuine connections. ? Why these mixers matter: Sitting alongside peers from different career stages fosters growth, mentorship, and a stronger sense of community within our field. These mixers will be held monthly throughout the year! While most events will be in our home base of Houston, we’re always planning pop-up visits to new cities. You never know where we’ll show up next! ?? Want to join us at the next event? RSVP here: https://lnkd.in/g8UbwJUc We hope to see you soon—let’s make 2025 unforgettable! #SurgicalTechCommunity #Networking #ForTheLoveOfSurgery #ProfessionalGrowth #SurgicalTechLife
