Those who have gone through the challenges of commercial scale-up know how critical capital cost optimization is for the success of first-of-a-kind (FOAK) projects. To hit targets and ensure feasibility, it is essential to rigorously assess the design scope and optimize for every aspect of the design. I wanted to thank Fortera’s Process Development Team for driving this effort and allowing us to hit our targets. Thank you to Mike Weiss (my co-founder and process guru), Connor Fleming, Robert Salisbury, Fionna Lim, and the broader engineering, project development, and R&D teams for making this happen. #teamappreciation #sustainability #FOAK #greencement

Fortera Establishes 12 Years of Sustainable Infrastructure in Santa Cruz! ?? Here's what Craig Hargis, VP of Products shared about this project:? “In August of 2012, Caltrans and the City of Santa Cruz placed a 300-foot-long sidewalk connecting La Fonda Ave and Park Way Ct. ReAct Blend and Class F Fly Ash were paired together to enhance the physical and environmental performance of the concrete. Over the past 12 years, the sidewalk has enabled the transit of hundreds of pedestrians and cyclists daily as they make their way to Harbor High School and the Santa Cruz Adult School. In September of 2024, we revisited the site to inspect the concrete and were pleased to find it in excellent condition. Shrinkage cracks occurred at control joints, and the concrete surface maintained a good broom finish. Next time you are in Santa Cruz catching a wave or enjoying the Boardwalk, don't forget to check out some low-carbon concrete.” The case study can be found at https://lnkd.in/dMByaJFX. #CaseStudy #GreenCement #SustainableConcrete #Demonstration

Did you know Fortera's ReAct? green cement has been in use since 2010? Our experienced team of engineers and cement industry veterans have been putting ReAct to the test for more than a decade! Here's what Craig Hargis, VP of Products shared about the first ReAct pour:? "In November of 2010, the first demonstration pour including ReAct Blend as a cementitious material occurred at an industrial park in Moss Landing, California. The reinforced slab-on-grade concrete used 4 cubic yards of concrete. Each cubic yard contained 600 lb of cementitious material and had a w/cm of 0.44. The cement blend contained 15% ReAct, 15% Class F fly ash, and 70% Type II/V portland cement. The utilization of alternative cementitious materials reduced the carbon dioxide emissions associated with the concrete by 25%. After 10 years of service, the concrete was cored and tested for compressive strength and underwent petrographic examination. The results indicate that the concrete strengthened to 7,600 psi (52 MPa) and is of good quality and in good condition." The case study, compression test video, and full petrographic report can be found at https://lnkd.in/dMByaJFX. #CaseStudy #GreenCement #Concrete #Demonstration
