For the month of FEBruary, we have been crowdfunding to raise funds for our current manufacturing season. Our crowdfunding campaign originates from our financial struggles that continually make it difficult for our team to push the boundaries of innovative engineering design. Due to our lack of funding, our team has to be extremely frugal and this forces us to compromise between quality and cost-effectiveness. New to 2023, Formula Electric at Berkeley is implementing a year-long education program designed to give our members all the skills they need to design and safely manufacture an electric racecar. We kicked off the semester with?“FEBootcamp” where new recruits saw our workshop at Richmond Field Station for the first time. After reviewing?all the proper safety protocols, members?rotated through several stations learning electrical skills like?soldering?and crimping. They?also?gained?hands-on experience with mechanical tools like the drill press, angle grinder, and bandsaw. We’re following the bootcamp up with a series of seminars throughout the semester that?will cover a spectrum of engineering topics, starting with fundamentals like high voltage safety and an intro to CAD. As the semester progresses we’ll get into more complex topics like design for manufacturing or PCB design. #formulaelectric #fsae #berkeleyengineering
