We are proud to announce a significant victory for the FormanWatkins NCAA Compliance and Sports Litigation team. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit has affirmed the dismissal of a lawsuit brought by a former student-athlete against our client, an SEC head football coach, and his University employer. Attorneys W.G. Watkins, Mitch McGuffey, and Courtney Hunt successfully represented the coach, with Mitch McGuffey arguing the appeal. We’re excited to share that FormanWatkins has won the 2024 Mississippi Free Legal Answers State Summer Associate Challenge! Our firm contributed over 50% of the total answers submitted by firms across the state. This initiative, part of a national program by the American Bar Association, allows attorneys - along with summer associates - to provide legal guidance to income-eligible individuals. Our Jackson team volunteered in two sessions, answering 26 questions on a wide range of legal matters. In a significant legal victory, the FormanWatkins team comprised of Win Gault, Courtney Hunt, and Molly McNair successfully represented a private transportation company in a defamation case against a global job review website. The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Mississippi issued a rare ruling, denying the website immunity under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act (CDA).
