Today is National Food is Medicine Day and we want to raise awareness about the importance of food security for our physical and mental health. Without regular consumption of nutritious food, we're at greater risk of heart disease, hypertension, cancer, kidney disease, diabetes, arthritis, depression, anxiety, and more. Forgotten Harvest works hard to nourish our community by providing free access to fresh produce, protein, grains, and dairy — everything you need to make a balanced plate. In recognition of National Food is Medicine Day, visit our website to donate to our mission and get involved in keeping our community healthy!

A non-profit organization dedicated to relieving hunger and food insecurity in metro Detroit.
关于我们
Forgotten Harvest was formed in 1990 to fight two problems: hunger and waste. Forgotten Harvest “rescued” and distributed 40 million pounds of food last year by collecting surplus prepared and perishable food from 800 sources, including grocery stores, fruit and vegetable markets, restaurants, caterers, dairies, farmers, wholesale food distributors and other Health Department-approved sources. This donated food, which would otherwise go to waste, is delivered free-of-charge to more than 200 emergency food providers in the Metro Detroit area. On this day, September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, we will join over 30,000 volunteers across the country in 21 cities to help pack 8.6 million meals for our fellow Americans at risk of hunger. We are so thankful to be joining 9/11 Day at Wayne State University for this incredibly special event. Today we gather as metro Detroiters to pack 200,000 meals in Detroit alone. Thank you to all the amazing volunteers making an impact today. WE ?? YOU! Visit 911day.org to learn more.

“I never thought I would need it. I used to donate to you guys, I would give to food drives and I never thought I’d need some of that pasta or rice…everything you need to make a meal and have nutrition, we end up having because of you guys.” Many of us are just one unexpected circumstance away from food insecurity. Job loss, new people to care for in your household, a change in transportation access, snowballing effects of inflation – whatever the cause, Forgotten Harvest is here to support you. One of our clients, Mary, has been picking up food from the Metropolitan Church of the Nazarene in Roseville since her husband lost his job during the pandemic. She told us, “There was no more money…and then we saw the sign that said Forgotten Harvest. It’s been a godsend, it’s been a blessing. I just had knee surgery, I have arthritis, so it’s not easy for me to walk and to work. So [Forgotten Harvest food] has helped tremendously.” Forgotten Harvest provides free, conveniently located food throughout metro Detroit’s three counties six days a week to support our neighbors experiencing food insecurity. It takes more than 560 food donors, over 220 food distribution partners, and thousands of volunteers, donors, and advocates to craft our web of support. “The food really helps you…” Mary said. “You guys give us things to make a meal so I was really glad; pasta, pasta sauce, meat, milk, bread, fresh vegetables, fruit, you guys have given us dry beans and chickpeas, black beans…it’s a godsend. I’ve shed tears many times here.” This Hunger Action Month, help us ensure our neighbors continue to have access to this all-important nourishment. Visit our website to donate and get involved today!
