Had an amazing time at Monday Night Futbal hosted by the talented Betirri at his beautiful home Casa Pink overlooking the Houston skyline. We watched a powerful documentary on the 1950 Brazil vs. Uruguay World Cup final, where Uruguay pulled off one of the biggest upsets in football history. A great reminder that in this game, anything can happen! Also had a great conversation with Jan-Luc Blakborn about his initiative TEAM HOUSTON and how Houston needs to start preparing for a month-long celebration of the 2026 World Cup, with our city set to host 7 matches. The excitement is building—let’s make sure Houston is ready to shine on the global stage! Forgn Studio had the incredible pleasure of hosting a presentation by Web3 expert, developer, and artist Travis Rice on the future of creative idea funding in 2025. This event was organized by H Town DAO, with assistance from build_houston, both dedicated to fostering innovation at the intersection of Web3 and creative industries. The presentation, led by Travis Rice, founding member of W3BBIE & Public Goods Club, explored how Web3 technologies are transforming the way creative projects are financed. He broke down trends in the crypto space and highlighted decentralized platforms, blockchain-based crowdfunding, and innovative tools that empower creators. One of the most exciting moments of the event was when Travis launched a token live on Pump.fun for all attendees to witness. He then time-locked the developer tokens, setting them to unlock at a later time, showcasing a real-world example of tokenomics and trust mechanisms in Web3. The room was fully engaged as the launch unfolded in real time, providing an interactive demonstration of how on-chain tools can be used for creative funding. I've been exploring capacitive sensing using just an antenna, an Arduino, and an LED. The goal is simple, the closer you get, the brighter the light. By using the antenna as a capacitive sensor, it detects changes in electric fields when a hand or object approaches. No need for extra components, just code and tuning. It’s surprisingly sensitive, even picking up small movements from a short distance. Still experimenting with range and stability, but the potential is exciting. Anyone else tried similar setups? Could be cool for some installation at Forgn Studio. I HATE imperfections...but nobody will notice...and if they do then we'll just dim the lights a bit more... The fourth shade is on the printer...eight more to go...and then sixteen bases... But...it WORKS! Forgn Studio is gonna be lit...literally! The lights WILL be ready for our first Art Smash Houston event on April 4th...that printer will be cooking... FWIW...the defects in that third pic reflect some of the issues STILL present in 3D printing technology. What if I told you that web3 has more funding opportunities than most founders realize? I recently led a "How To Fund Your Ideas with Web3" presentation and workshop at Forgn Studio, hosted by H-Town DAO and build_cities. The goal? Show people the multiple ways they can raise money for their ideas—from launching an NFT project to spinning up a DAO, dropping a token, or securing web3 grants. It wasn’t just me talking at people. We got hands on. In the workshop, attendees launched a token live on Solana using pumpdotfun (because why just talk about it when you can do it?). They named it Cherry Blossoms ($CHERRY), and in real time, we watched it go from a $5K market cap to $9K before it, well… settled back at $5K. It was a rollercoaster, and the excitement in the room was unreal. We even locked our developer token supply using Streamflow with a scheduled release on Global Bitcoin Pizza Day (May 22). The plan? My amazing and always cheerful daughter-in-law Giselle Schoonover helped me assemble racks at Forgn Studio in preparation for our upcoming Social+Fusion Society Art Smash Houston Friday Night Events. Giselle has assembled so many of these racks for the Skoonies that she can do it blindfolded. We breezed through assembling both racks and then unboxing and testing the pottery wheels in an hour-and-a-half! I am working on the lighting using the programmable bulbs which Khanh Nguyen (also amazing) helped me configure. Pretty colors! Add in some music, video displays, projector screens, easels and paints...not to mention video games, arcade consoles, poetry reading, board games...whatever people want to do { together }...
