The Ardurra team was proud to be recognized last Friday night at ACEC Georgia Engineering Excellence Awards Gala as a key teaming partner with Freese and Nichols on the award-winning Eastern Regional Infrastructure (ERI) project for Gwinnett County! Our team designed the 14-MGD Apalachee River Wastewater Pump Station for this innovative $125M design-build project that combines critical water infrastructure with recreational amenities, earning an Envision Silver Award for sustainability. The project also included 21,800 LF of 16-inch water mains, 35,000 LF of 24-, 30- and 36-inch gravity sewers, 32,500 LF of 20-inch parallel, 2,500 LF of 30-inch force main, a 3.5-mile greenway/trail system, and stormwater and roadway improvements. Foresite Group provided Civil, Landscape Architecture, and Structural services for the VA Spinal Cord Injury exterior courtyard project in Augusta, GA. Working alongside Apogee Consulting Group, we contributed to the transformation of the courtyard into a dedicated rehabilitation and healing space for veterans. Our team helped create a wheelchair-accessible obstacle course, simulate various mobility challenges, and design spaces for rest and reflection. As the prime designer, Apogee, and our partner Foresite Group, were responsible for conducting a topographical survey, site investigation, and developing design and construction documentation to transform the existing Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) exterior courtyard into a rehabilitation and healing space for veterans. The redesigned courtyard features a wheelchair-accessible obstacle course that simulates various terrain levels and pavement surfaces commonly encountered by ADA patients. The courtyard includes designated areas that replicate mobility challenges individuals might face in public spaces. At its center, a large multi-use sports area features a concrete pad, partially coated with a synthetic sports surface similar to a tennis court. Apogee also designed a wooden deck to serve as a seating area for patients, visitors, and staff, which can also function as a quiet space for private reflection or small group discussions. Surrounding the sports court, sand and mulch sections offer additional surface variations for ADA mobility exercises. Encircling these central elements, a series of linear walkways constructed from various materials—brick pavers, truncated dome pavers, brushed concrete slabs, mulch, and stone aggregate—introduce different textures and slopes, simulating real-world conditions. Completing the courtyard’s design, a vibrant tensile fabric structure in two complementary colors stretches overhead, providing shade during warmer months while adding a dynamic and visually engaging element to the space. #ACG #AE #Design #Healthcare #ProjectUpdate
