Through our on-call contract with Gwinnett County, Foresite Group has completed design and managed the construction of an exciting new project at the Gwinnett Environmental Heritage Center! The Sensory Treehouse project was designed to provide accessibility by way of an elevated boardwalk that hugs the edge of the hardwood forest directly above the Gwinnett EHC. The steel and aluminum boardwalk parallels the ridgeline and provides interactive learning stations that will be programmed to engage the senses of touch, smell, and sight, allowing the County a unique tool for teaching, as well as providing vantage points for visitors of the EHC. The boardwalk concludes at a large building designed to mimic the size and shape of the American Chestnut Tree, the dominant tree species of the Piedmont forests for centuries. The terminal building is constructed of Corten steel sheet pilings giving it a unique brown finish. The interior space of the building is conditioned and designed in such a way that the County can program an immersive audiovisual experience designed to replicate the experience of a Piedmont forest through different seasons and times of day. The elevated decking around the building has many programmable spaces and overlooks and even includes a cargo net hammock, suspending visitors high above the forest floor. #Foresite #landscapearchitecture #civilengineer #design #project

The Eastern Regional Infrastructure (ERI) project in Gwinnett County is complete! The $125 Million project has approximately five miles of new paved public multi-use trails, a new trailhead with parking, a comfort station with a pavilion and bike repair amenities, upgraded and expanded water service, and expanded sewer service. The trail portion of the project is called the Eastern Regional Greenway, which will provide access to trail systems connecting all the way to Barrow County. The joint contractor and design consultant teams worked with both the Gwinnett Department of Water Resources and the Department of Community Services to bring necessary utility infrastructure upgrades to the growing region and to provide a public amenity by way of a multi-use trail along the same corridor. The beautiful trail follows the Apalachee River through open fields and heavily forested countryside. There are numerous bridges and elevated boardwalks that snake across streams and large wetland areas taking in the natural beauty of the some of Gwinnett County’s most remote locations. Our Greenspace + Land Design team provided professional services including landscape architecture and civil engineering as well as coordination with other consultants to provide a 5.5 mile greenway trail corridor and pocket park areas along the pathway. #foresite #engineering #design #gwinnett

EXCITING NEWS! Chick-fil-A Restaurants first ever elevated drive-thru restaurant opened last week on the south side of Atlanta with the help of our rockstar #civilengineering team that provided full Civil site design services. This design is an "innovative way to expedite service with four drive-thru lanes and a sophisticated conveyer belt system that streamlines food delivery by quickly moving the meal from the elevated kitchen above to a Team Member on the ground below." The City of Johns Creek officially broke ground this morning on the new Creekside Park near their City Hall! Our Greenspace + Land Design team led the master planning and design for this new amenity area that features an amphitheater, terraced seating, and trails/boardwalks with multiple viewing areas overlooking a pond.
