All-star webinar panel today co-hosted by the U.S. Department of Education and Ford Next Generation Learning (Ford NGL). Business leaders from Akron, Louisville and Nashville—three Ford NGL communities—shared how their businesses organize and support their partnerships with local schools. All three have policies in place to support employee volunteerism and these activities have clear points of contact and leaders within the company. Raytown Quality Schools; School District (RQS) in Missouri recently engaged over 100 community and school district stakeholders to begin envisioning a transformation of the high school experience. Students, teachers, family members, business leaders, nonprofits, post-secondary institutions and district leadership discussed "why" they want change, "what" students want from their learning experience, and "how" high school might look differently in the future. The innovative leadership of Superintendent Dr. Penelope Martin-Knox and the district's Real World Learning Team have invited district stakeholders and the broader community to help design how all Raytown high school students can engage in real world learning through the career academy model. Ford Next Generation Learning (Ford NGL) is proud to partner with the Raytown Community in the greater Kansas City region as we move through Envision, Phase 2 of the FNGL roadmap process. We are already looking forward to refining the vision at Raytown's next community convening on November 21!

Day - 2 Insights from the Academies of Nashville Study Visit: BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS WITH CORPORATE PARTNERS & ADVISORY BOARDS - #FutureCareersNow #ANStudyVisit #NashHub - Be intentional with partnership development for each Academy in order to cultivate a positive working relationship towards long-term stability and success - Don’t limit your schools reach by ruling out potential corporate partners: small companies, nonprofits, larger, corporations, all can contribute and have an impact on your students - Academy coaches are absolutely essential to allow this work to happen. They are the backbones and driving force behind successful implementation. - Think about structures for ongoing progress monitoring and support for new initiatives in the Academy. - Are your corporate partners apart of your community or simply working with your school community? Are you engaging with these stakeholders in authentic way to build long-term success and partnership sustainability. - Motivate scholars to go into STEAM fields by building connections with STEAM professionals in the field. Day - 1 Takeaways from the Academies of Nashville Study Visit: - Academies only work when you have local government, industry partners, city chamber, school leaders and district buy-in towards increasing opportunity in access for all students. - Philanthropy and supplemental resources are essential to sustaining program development and hub expansion - Activating your local City Chamber is essential towards not only advisory boards, but also strategic industry design within the Academy models in schools. It’s a partnership, not a concept. - Setting the bar of expectations for all students in academies has to be at the center of all decisions. Being intentional with school design, start times, flexibility, staffing structure, staff performance designs, CTE alignment, and all academy program designs have to be taken under consideration. - Teachers are the anchors of the Academy experience; they participate in externship, career enrichment opportunities, industry shadowing opportunities, and advisory boards merging collaboration and innovation in the classroom.
