Yesterday, our members showcased their end-of-year final presentations to their peers. We’re incredibly proud of their accomplishments and the substantial impact they’ve made for their clients. Their dedication and hard work have been evident, resulting in remarkable growth in their understanding of business development throughout the year. A big thank you goes out to each of our members for their commitment, as well as to our clients - Sol Cacao, Shine by Charlemagne, Bronx Bound Books, AMPO International e.V. - for giving us the opportunity to collaborate with them. It was a special honor to have Marissa Charlemagne, founder of Shine by Charlemagne, attend our presentations in person! As we look ahead, we’re eager about nurturing these partnerships further and achieving even greater strides in the coming year!

Our goal is to provide advice to businesses in the Bronx on strategy, marketing, and technology.

We are the Fordham Business Development Collaboratory, an organization sponsored by the Social Innovation Collaboratory of Fordham University. As you know, the past few months have been some of the most damaging many businesses have seen in the last decade. In particular small businesses, the backbone of the United States economy, have been utterly crippled. As members of the Bronx community through Fordham University, we could not sit idly by as our community suffered greatly from this pandemic and recession. This prompted us to assemble student teams that could help small businesses throughout the Bronx and New York City. Our goal is to provide strategic advice to businesses around the Bronx on finance, compliance, marketing, and technology. The finance team assists with financial analyses of the business as well as performing projects like implementing contactless payment systems. The compliance team assists with loan applications, as well as providing guidance on new rules and guidelines regarding businesses and the COVID-19 pandemic. The marketing team helps grow social media presence and can develop or improve websites for our clients. Finally, the technology team will advise these small businesses on cyber risk and any technological concerns these businesses may have. For any questions, please contact us at [email protected].

This week marked a significant milestone as our teams presented their mid-year updates, sharing insightful research, innovative ideas, and substantial progress with their peers across FBDC teams. In a span of just a few months, our teams have absorbed invaluable knowledge in business development, leading to tangible growth for our clients. Looking ahead to January, our teams will embark on the full implementation of their strategic plans to further accelerate the expansion of each business. We are so excited to see what they will do this Spring!

This Saturday, one of our teams went to the Mall at Bay Plaza for a Bronx Bound Books author series event! This week featured the talented author Lissette Norman and her children’s book, Plátanos Go with Everything. We’re looking forward to making content with the footage and pictures taken from this event. Thanks to everyone who came, and be sure to check out Bronx Bound Books’ author series, which takes place every Saturday from 11 am-1 pm at their kiosk in the Mall at Bay Plaza!

The other night, members from one of our teams had the opportunity to meet face-to-face with the non-profit organization they have been working with since the fall. It was incredibly powerful to meet the founder of the AMPO International e.V. organization and to hear about AMPO’s origin story and current initiatives. Many thanks to Katrin & Joachim for visiting us all the way from Germany. Learn about FBDC’s partnership with AMPO Below: AMPO is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the people of Burkina Faso, particularly by providing food and shelter to orphaned children as well as personal and professional assistance to women who have been uprooted from their villages. We’re hoping to give this organization a larger footprint in the northeast by offering various marketing initiatives and proposing new strategies for expansion. Stay tuned for more! Meet one of FBDC’s four amazing teams! This group is working with?Bronx Bound Books to help them expand their reach through social media, newsletter publication, and market research. Bronx Bound Books is a mobile bookstore that launched in May of 2019, and they also own a kiosk at the Mall at Bay Plaza where they host an author series on Saturdays. Bronx Bound Books’ mission is to promote book ownership, literacy, and access to books in every corner of the Bronx. We couldn’t be more excited to help them fulfill this mission! A big thank you to our Project Manager, Sabrina Khanali, our Executive Director, Isabella Liebler, and the entire team (Alex Rubinstein, Anagha Nair, Ben Hayman, Eileen Jiyoon Kim, Finn Johnson, Hamilton Fish, Kabir Patel, Michael Lynch, Shyna Shah, Tanveer Atwal) for their hard work!
