I earned a Death Literacy Specialist certificate from Compassionate Doula (Francesca Arnoldy, author of The Doula Heart and A Guide to Living Fully and Dying Prepared). #GraduallyThenSuddenly #ShiftHappens Do you and your Loved Ones have an End-of-Life care plan? Dealing with mortality can be overwhelming. Planning end-of-life care for yourself and your loved ones can bring peace, reassurance, and relief. My passion is to inspire proactive planning for end-of-life care. As an end-of-life doula, I may be your end-of-life care concierge. I offer respite for exhausted caregivers, navigate end-of-life care, and provide guidance to prepare for what’s to come while offering support during the grieving process. I provide compassion, information, and a sense of calm and often act as a project manager to help coordinate various non-medical supportive services.

I believe in people and our capacity to help each other when things go pear-shaped. Proud to be breaking through the barriers to mental health and grief support, as the CEO of Help Texts.
We work with a lot of different organizations at Help Texts but the greatest honor is when we have the opportunity to work with children's hospitals to support parents, siblings and grandparents when a child has a terminal diagnosis, and also later, as they grieve. This work is vital and deeply valued by families during the most tender and difficult time in their lives. If you work at a children's hospital or have received care at a children's hospital and would like to help us support families and staff there, please download our new one-pager to discover how personalized, text-based support can: ?? Provide year-long expert guidance to families without increasing staff time ?? Honor important dates and milestones in the caregiving and grief journey ?????? Strengthen a hospital's reputation for compassionate, whole-family care ?? Support clinical teams and help them build emotional resilience https://loom.ly/O8bE-lE #HelpTexts #ChildrensHospitals #PediatricCare #FamilySupport #GriefSupport

In 1963, Dame Cicely Saunders introduced the idea of specialized care for the dying to the U.S. in a lecture at Yale University. Shortly after in 1967, she created St. Christopher’s Hospice in the United Kingdom, founding the modern hospice movement. In honor of Women’s History Month, we want to recognize Dame Cicely Saunders for her instrumental role in the holistic, person-centered hospice benefit we have today.?? #womenshistorymonth?

Thinking Ahead About the End | by Maria Amador, the Chronicle (https://lnkd.in/db-sd2ie) | March 5, 2025 #Excerpt 'LOWELL — When it comes to death — one’s own or someone else’s — many assume the benefits of time and preparation but forget the effort that makes them possible. That is, confronting the inevitable with the same kind of planning and thoughtfulness one deploys while still alive. If the notion of planning ahead for death seems difficult, and perhaps unnecessary, there are people whose job it is to help dispel that error and facilitate preparations for the inevitable. They are called death doulas, and at a most basic level, their work asks: What is a living person willing to do to support their own or another’s dying wishes, and what resources does that require? One such practitioner, Patricia M Sears became a death doula after a decade of watching people close to her die different deaths, each with its own set of end-of-life preparations. She was especially involved in caring for her father-in-law and experienced firsthand the effects of the lack of emotional and logistic preparation. Ms. Sears explained part of the reason people — herself included — think they know what to expect with death lies in having spoken of their desires throughout their lives. Things changed for her once she discovered one can have an end-of- life care plan. Having this done, said Ms. Sears, takes a hefty burden off loved ones who can then focus on the emotional side of witnessing a loved one’s decline and act with clarity when it’s time to make decisions. But Ms. Sears’ work isn’t just for those dealing with an imminent death. The sign-up sheet for her six-session workshop series — “A Guide to Living Fully and Dying Prepared” — says “someone interested in personal growth by exploring their own mortality, or an individual facing a major life transition” could likewise benefit from her services as a doula. Ms. Sears is adamant that her role is not that of a therapist but more that of a companion, a navigator, and a guide equipped with tools to help make end-of-life care less daunting and more impactful for everyone involved.' #LivingFullyDyingPrepared For Graceful Transitions An End-of-Life Doula #DeathLiteracySpecialist https://lnkd.in/dvJkV75S
