关于我们
Founded in 1979 by a dedicated group of nurses, Hospice of the Foothills has grown from a visionary all-volunteer initiative to Foothills Compassionate Care, a leading non-profit specializing in supporting families and patients living with chronic illnesses or experiencing an end-of-life journey in Western Nevada County. At Foothills Compassionate Care, we firmly believe that nobody should have to face the end of life or manage serious chronic illnesses alone. We offer palliative care at our clinic and hospice services wherever our patients call home. Our caring, skilled, compassionate team focuses on easing this journey, allowing patients and their families to concentrate on cherishing their moments together. All our services, together. You may ask why we adopted the Foothills Compassionate Care name last September. After thoughtful consideration by our staff, Board of Directors, Board of Trustees, donors, volunteers, and community partners, we decided to highlight all of our services under one umbrella name. It reflects our ongoing commitment to continuous improvement and responsiveness to the evolving needs of our community. As we celebrate 45 years of service, this change positions us for future growth and allows us to better communicate the breadth of our services. We are excited for the future and look forward to more under this umbrella name. For more information:

Here are a few Friends of Hospice members adding stuffing to the bears we offer each patient, and sewing them up. Our Friends of Hospice group help us with envelope stuffing (and we make it fun!), creating the bears and other cards and gifts for our patients. If you'd like to know more about joining Friends of Hospice or other ways to volunteer, read here:

Have you ever considered being a patient support volunteer with a hospice organization? Our team of volunteers are friendly visitors to engage patients and give them socialization. They can also give respite to the caregiver for up to 4 hours while they go shopping, have lunch with a friend, or simply get some needed rest. Whatever the task, our patient support volunteers tell us how rewarding it is to know they made a real difference in the life of someone facing their end-of-life journey. If this is something you feel drawn to do, contact us. Our next Patient Support Training Class is NEXT WEEK (March 10-13). If you would like to submit an application for the training program, please click here. For general information on our volunteer programs, visit

In the Foothills Compassionate Care offices, we have a large metal tree mounted on the wall. Every single one of these little heart magnets honors a patient we have cared for through their end-of-life journey. When a patient dies, their initials and date is written onto a heart magnet and it is added to the tree. The memory of every patient and family our team is privileged to serve stays with them long after they are gone. This tree we all pass by daily represents life, love, and loss. Isn't it beautiful?
