First dive into NACUFS national conference! Something that really stood out was embracing natural resources and the effort University of Louisville and Louisville Water Company have gone to do among many other amazing sustainability initiatives they have in place. We often talk about technology as an essential tool to tackle climate change and commonly it is the case. However, seeing the campaign was a refreshing reminder that sometimes simply having the “best tasting” tap water and a great behavior change campaign is enough. Apparently, they’ve been running it for over 20 years. I think back to reuse in foodservice, and the innovation and efforts to create packaging from “natural sources”. While that has its place, plenty of research demonstrates that simply reusing durable materials that already exist and having the right infrastructure is the most sustainable solution. That is why when we started FoodWare our mission from day one was embracing existing durable materials and creating systems to #reuse and ensure their #circularity.
