???? Do you know where your seafood, beef, or leather is really coming from? Industry leaders are working to standardize how traceability data is shared and collected along the supply chains to reduce fraud, eliminate labor abuse, and prevent deforestation. The ultimate goal? Use this as a tool across sectors and ensure ethically sourced materials. ?? Key Takeaways: ?? What is traceability? The "who, what, when, where, and why" of a product's journey, across both food and fashion. ?? "Supply chains, by nature, are partnership-based." ?? "Collaboration is good for business, and good business is collaborative." ?? "Fast food & fashionistas, take note! Traceability standards from the seafood industry are the ultimate 'cheat code' for beef & leather supply chains." ?? "Standardization is the foundation of transparency: just like how barcodes revolutionized retail, we need a universal data language for supply chains." Power-house line-up today at the Better Food Future Summit. In attendance: Danielle Nierenberg (Food Tank) Jean-Stéphane Naas (United Nations Global Compact Ocean Stewardship Coalition) Mark K. (Wholechain) Karly Kelso (Environmental Defense Fund / Aquatic Blue Food Coalition) Leyland Seto (Plug and Play Tech Center) Jayson Berryhill (Wholechain) Cliona Howie del Río (EIT Food) Huw Thomas (Global Dialogue on Seafood Traceability (GDST)) Blake Harris CSCP (Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) / Global Food Traceability Center) Steve Hart (Global Seafood Alliance) Michael McNicholas (Culinary Collaborations LLC / GDST Chairman) Joe Sellwood (Reflect) ?istein Thorsen (FAI) Fernando Bellese de Cesaro (World Wildlife Fund) Earl W. Shank (Tapestry) Food Tank is a proud fiscal sponsor of the Better Food Future Summit: enabling companies to donate alongside philanthropies and other corporates to de-risk investments and accelerate impact. #BetterFoodFuture #SupplyChain #Traceability #Sustainability #Innovation #FoodSystems

“How we eat has the power to hurt or heal us — and the planet.” At Food Tank’s All Things Food #SXSW Summit today, panelists stressed how food is so much more than what’s on the plate. Food is connection, community, resilience. What will it take to build sustainable food systems? ·?Center the farmers: Knowing the story behind your food matters. Producers devote their lives and livelihoods to stewarding their ecosystems to nourish their communities. ·?Seek out allies: True change will take partnership and unusual collaborations. Retailers, for example, have an active role to play in responsible sourcing, fair prices for farmers and helping consumers understand nutrition. ·?Embracing regenerative for holistic planetary health: We’re on the cusp of an incredible nutrition revolution, said Roy Steiner of the The Rockefeller Foundation, with research showing huge molecular differences between food grown organically, regeneratively or conventionally. ·?Look to the “Earth Guardians”: Filmmaker Josh Tickell highlighted the cadre of scientists, activists, farmers, ranchers, Indigenous people already on the front lines of rebuilding ecosystems. ·?Embrace conscious consumption: When possible, buy local. Everyone can play a role in considering what you buy, what you eat, who you support is aligned with your values. “Know where your food comes from,” urged Paul Willis, founding hog farmer of Niman Ranch. “It’s not a slogan that wears out.”
