FoodShare South Carolina is seeking a Director of Programs & Evaluation to lead the development of the Fresh Food Box program infrastructure, expand into rural areas, execute the strategic plan, provide supervision and direction to program staff, manage business administration duties, and coordinate evaluation partners. Preferred Qualifications are: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree, with 5 years of experience in nonprofit management, public health management, or equivalent management experience. Master’s in Public Health or related fields preferred. Experience with food security, anti-poverty, nutrition assistance programs is an asset, especially in rural settings. Barriers include where people live, age, income, and whether reliable transportation exists. Without healthy options, health risks increase. Our goal is to enhance the quality of life in our diverse communities by increasing access to fresh, affordable produce and providing quality cooking skills education. FoodShare South Carolina’s mission is to increase access to, knowledge of and consumption of vegetables and fruit through community-led projects. As a leader in food security locally and statewide in South Carolina, we collaborate with others who share our beliefs to realize our vision of expanding access to nutritious food.

Our interim executive director, Omme-Salma Rahemtullah, joined other organizations this week to speak before the SC Joint Citizens and Legislative Committee on Children to encourage legislators to bring Summer EBT to the state of South Carolina. Last summer, SC was one of 15 states that decided to opt out of the summer EBT program, that would have given each child $120 dollars over the summer to purchase groceries for the time children are out of school. Summer’s are often the hungriest times for low-income and food insecure families, and this boost in summer time SNAP benefits can ensure that children in our state have a hunger-free summer and return to school well-nourished and ready to learn.
